Review: 2005 Leaf Century Collection Baseball (review by Ike Newton)

   Base Card Scans

Comments:

The base cards are ok, but the black background border and the black text makes the player's position hard to see. Designer had good ideas, but the final result seems to have been rushed. Nice player selection with prospects, superstars, and hall of famers.

   Insert Card Scan(s)

Comments:

We pulled a Post Marks Silver insert parallel which are numbered to 100. These should have been the colors used for the base design. These give you the feel of the old 1990 / 1991 Leaf.

   Game Used Jersey Scan(s)
Comments:

These are the base position player jersey cards which are numbered to 250 or less. The Jeff Kent is numbered /100 and seems to have a piece of swatch from the button hole area. The Mike Mussina is numbered out of /250.

   Stamp Scans
Comments:

These look a LOT better than I thought they would look. Everything is nearly positioned. We pulled a Dave Righetti Stamps "Olympic" Materials game used card which includes an Olympic stamp and piece of game used material. These are numbered to 92 or less. We also got lucky and pulled a Harold Baines Stamps "Fields" Signature Materials which are numbered to 34 or less. This was close to being a prime [Primes are 1/1]. The Baines is numbered 1/3. The stamp has a date on it (July 4, 1959).

   The Final Verdict!

I give this product a 5 of 5 HI Fives. Great product! Only 10 packs per box, but you get an average of 4 game used or autographs per box. So, 1 in 2.5 packs odds ain't bad. Rarity aside, the stamp cards are AWESOME in design.
