Base Set Scan |

| Comments:
The base set features a beautiful looking rainbow metallic foil board card stock. These Sweet Shot base cards are very similar to the technology UD used with the 2005-06 UD Ice Rainbow parallels. They were very popular with collectors last year, and so should this Sweet Shot base set. There are 100 cards in the set and you get only one base card per tin. This set could be trying for even the most die-hard set builders.
If the interest does pick up for these base cards, it will be very interesting to see how they do. Any specific base card player is harder to pull than the rookie jersey cards which has less cards in the subset..

Rookie Scan |

| Comments:
Each tin contains one rookie jersey card. Each one is individually numbered to just 499 copies. While we didn't pull one of the more desirable rookies from this season, we did come away with a nice two color swatch. The cards all contain photo-shoot jerseys which seems to be the norm for the rookie memorabilia pieces. There are also autographed versions numbered to just 25 copies that seem to average about one per 20 tin case.
There are 60 different rookies in the set. So once again, it's a tough pull to get any specific rookie you might be searching for. This set has the potential to be a sleeper down the road with just 499 of each one made and the addition of the jersey swatch. I did like the fact that UD didn't tier the better rookies into a lower print run as it gives everyone an even shot to pull any rookie jersey card in the set. |

Autograph Card Scan |
Comments:
UD is banking on the autograph cards in Sweet Shot to be the main set to draw collectors in. They did a really nice job in doing so. The more common autographs feature the players autograph on a puck. The puck is actually sandwiched between the card front and card back to give it a die-cut effect which is hard to see in the scan. Of course at the price point, we'd love to bring home a better autograph than a Brad Boyes
The autograph variations will definitely be the head turner of this set. There are four different autograph sets to go with the regular "puck" autos. Ice Signings, which feature an autograph on a clear piece of acetate modeled to look like a hockey rink. Stick Signings, that have manufactured stick pieces shaped like a stick blade. Endorsed Equipment Goalie autographs, with the signatures on top of game worn goalie pads. And Signature Sticks, which have the autographs right on top of actual game used stick pieces.

| Comments:
You also get one jersey card per tin in Sweet Shot hockey. There are single, double and triple versions of each jersey card. The singles are numbered to 200, the doubles to 50, and the triples to just 25. The letters N-H-L appear on the bottom and UD replaced a letter with a jersey piece on the cards. The checklist ranges from young studs like Sidney Crosby to NHL Legends like Wayne Gretzky.
We were fortunate enough to pull a triple variation in our tin. It also happened to be the latest addition to the 500 goal club. Unfortunately a lot of the attention Sweet Shot gets won't be directed at the jersey cards, so it's hard to say how these cards will do with other high end sets just around the corner.

The
Final Verdict! |

I
rated this tin 3 1/2 out of 5 HI Fives. The good news is the autographs and base cards look amazing. The bad news is the price tag you might encounter at your local shop. Tins range anywhere from $75-$100. That's a big risk for just four cards. This brand is definitely one of the riskier ones to come out this year. But kudos to UD for some of the nicest designed autograph cards we've seen....we just wish they weren't so pricey to pull.
I've opened my fair share of Sweet Shot and while there are some tins that are absolutely amazing when you pull some of the autograph variations, there are just as many that have you reaching for the ice pack when you're done. Truly, the definition of a hit-or-miss product. If you're not a big risk taker you may want to wait on this one, but if you enjoy the gamble and have money to spare, it could be one of the more exciting breaks you'll have.
