Rookie Card Scan |
| Comments:
In a heavy relic and autograph filled set, you consider these rookie cards the actual base set. If you're familiar at all with the metallic cards Topps has produced since their Finest brand in the mid-90's you'll recognize the same technology on these. The photography on the rookie cards is sharp and features nice action shots from the season. Each card has a short bio and other information on the the back.
The only complaint about the rookie set is the tiny rookie designation on the front of the card in the upper left hand corner. Something bigger or bolder might help collectors, who aren't as familiar with the players or the set, recognize that these cards are true rookies.

Rookie Relic Card Scan |
| Comments:
The one per pack rookie relic cards also feature the same metallic card stock as the regular rookie 'base' cards. There are a total of 20 different rookie relic cards in the set, and some rookies like Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay make their appearances in this subset from Bowman Sterling. Unfortunately we weren't lucky enough to pull one of the autograph rookie relic cards, but the rookie relic jersey cards are done nicely enough to help us forget about that. Just like the regular rookie cards, I would've liked to have seen a bigger "RC" designation on the front rather than the small print in the upper left corner. Overall, very sharp looking cards though.

RC AUTO Card Scan |
| Comments:
The Autograph Rookie cards also fall one per pack in Bowman Sterling. As with the rookie relic jersey cards, there are a total of 20 different rookie autographs in the set. Some of the bigger names you might find in this subset are Paul Millsap and Jordan Farmer. I'm not a big fan of sticker autographs in any set, especially ones with such a high price tag. However, Topps used a clear holographic sticker that doesn't detract from the card that much. In hand, you have to take a close look to even see if it's been signed on the card or if a sticker was applied. If they have to use stickers, I prefer Topps continue to use these clear versions rather than the loud silver stickers they use in most of their products.

Veteran Relic Card Scan |
| Comments:
We were lucky enough to hit a Dirk Nowitzki black refractor parallel relic card for our one per pack veteran jersey card. I've always been a huge fan of Topps' refractor technology, and the black rainbow effect is just as sharp as their regular refractors. The scan simply does not do the card justice. Not to mention, this Dirk is numbered to just 25 copies! The checklist for the veteran relic cards is stellar. Besides the current league MVP which we pulled, you'll find more NBA MVP's throughout the past few decades. Superstars like Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, and Shaquille O'Neill join fellow legends Julius Erving, Bill Walton, and Wilt Chamberlain. The checklist of 30 veteran relic cards is pretty impressive. And at one per pack, the odds are, you're going to hit one of the biggies in each pack.
If the veteran relic cards aren't enough to win you over, there are 10 autographed veteran relic cards in the set as well. The checklist includes legends like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson along with current stars like Dwayne Wade and Ray Allen. These fall at a rate of one per box!

The
Final Verdict! |

| I
rate this pack a 4 of 5 HI Fives. 2006-07 Bowman Sterling Basketball uses the same formula that made Sterling Football and Baseball so popular. It was a no brainer for Topps to debut this set in basketball. If you're a fan of the metallic Topps cards, then you'll love these. I'd like to see actual base cards of veterans in the set, and perhaps a slightly larger set to promote more box breaking, but at $40-$60 a pack, maybe a smaller set isn't a bad thing. A weaker rookie class also may hurt this product in the long run, but it isn't a fault of this set. The Veteran relic and auto relic cards more than make up for some of the lackluster rookies within the set. With the huge class coming in next year, we can only hope Bowman Sterling makes a return with high quality cards like these.
