Comments:

32 new 2006 Rookies from the 25-man roster who weren’t in Topps Series 1 or 2 are featured in this edition of 2006 Topps U&H Baseball. The rookies have the new rookie card log on the bottom of the card. The rookies have nice posed or action shots from training camp or preseason. The back of the cards has stats of the players previous year in College. There is also a short bio of the player along with a synopsis of the players highlights.

There are also Rookie Debut cards that have a time stamp of the players first appearance in the Majors. Nice photography and easy to read lettering highlights this rookie insert set of 45 cards showcasing players who made their MLB debut in 2006.

We pulled (51) rookies of one form or another from our 36 packs of cards in this box. Here's the breakdown for this box;

  • (41) regular rookie cards
  • (1) rookie card gold border /2006
  • (9) rookie debut

Comments:

The inserts came fast and furious in this box. At least half of the box is an insert of one form or another. The inserts include the following;

  • Post Season Highlights
  • League Leaders
  • MLB All-Stars
  • MLB Home Run Derby
  • Team Leaders
  • Classic Duos
  • Barry Bonds 715
  • Barry Bonds Home Run History
  • Mickey Mantle Homerun History

Comments:

Our box-topper was a nice Topps Chrome rookie card of Melky Cabrera of the New York Yankees. This card is numbered to /599. Also, we met with the odds and we got the "In Memoriam" card of the late Cory Lidle of the New York Yankees.

Comments:

Well we didn't get an autograph, but we did get a real nice All-Star workout jersey of Jose Reyes.

   The Final Verdict!

I rate this box a 4 of 5 HI Fives. 2006 Topps Updates & Highlights Baseball is a real nice completion to an already great set from Topps this year. You can usually find these boxes in the $25 to $45 price range. Very good value for the money in my opinion if you like collectiing a variety of sub-sets. The best for me is the Homerun Derby sub-set, which includes Ryan Howard the "CHAMP".
