   Base Set Scan
Comments:

The base set features a beautifully designed die-cut design for the entire set. Traditionalists may not be a big fan, but I sure am. I absolutely love the design and the effort that went into producing the cards. The holo-foil technology within the big 'X' may be a bit loud, but overall, the cards came out wonderfully.

Along with the two photos on the front, the back feature a nice close-up shot along with the player's stats from the past five years. Along with the stats is a nice writeup about the player which includes career highlights or other information..

   Rookie/Young Stars Subset Scan
Comments:

SPx includes both a Rookie Signatures and Young Stars Signatures autograph set inside the packs this year. The Rookie Signatures are numbered as part of the set and include the MLB Rookie Card stamp, while the Young Star Signature set is an insert set with a similar design. Both cards feature sticker autographs and foil board card stock..

The scans simply don't do the cards justice. When you see these in hand, you can really appreciate the metallic foil and how it gives off the rainbow type reflection. It's almost enough to make you forget the autographs on the cards are stickers.....almost.

   Rookie Autograph Redemption Scan
Comments:

UD added eight mystery Rookie Autograph card redemptions into SPx for some added flair. Collectors are speculating which rookie their redemption will be good for. UD will reveal the players card by card over the upcoming months. Check out our Press Release forum or the Front Page frequently as we will be updating the checklist as soon as UD sends us the word.

   Iron Man Insert Scans
Comments:

Cal Ripken is the featured subject of the SPx Iron Man insert set. The card features some of Cal Ripken's career highlights during his run to 2632 straight games. Each one is numbered to 699 and is on a gold foil board card stock. We ended up with three of Cal's subset in our break.

Randomly inserted into the mix are autographed 1/1 versions as well as memorabilia versions containing Ripken game worn jerseys within the '2-6-3-2'.

   Box Topper Card Scans
Comments:

Each box of SPx baseball contains an autograph preview card from the Artifacts Auto-Facts set. Well...it's supposed to anyways. Somehow the card inside our box topper pack came without the autograph sticker on it. UD obviously overlooked this one, but we'll see if they can make it right and are able to replace it with one with an autograph on it.

Other than the missing autograph, the card is nicely designed, and you can't really complain when you get a free box topper card....that's autographed. Well...sometimes...

   Memorabilia Card Scan

Comments:

There are an advertised 6 memorabilia cards per box on average in SPx this year. That's quite a lot of jerseys they cut up for this product. The basic Winning Materials jerseys vary in numbering and feature a nice metallic foil board card stock and nice holographic foil in the cut-out letters in 'S-P-X'. Autographed versions of the Winning Materials are also inserted throughout the product.

Not only did we get the stated six memorabilia cards per box, we managed to get a patch card #'d to 99 and a triple jersey #'d to 75 in our box.

   The Final Verdict!

I rate this box a 4.5 of 5 HI Fives. 2007 SPx is definitely a fun break. I absolutely love the base set design and the foil board card stock for the memorabilia cards is a nice touch. It could also make them condition sensitive as well. You pretty much get a jersey or an autograph in each of the 10 packs in the box. It's hard to go wrong. But it could possibly be a case of quantity over quality. However, it's hard to complain when you keep pulling jersey after jersey at your local shop. The box topper pack is a great bonus for an already loaded product.

The rookie redemptions will be a great thing to follow as UD reveals each rookie over the coming weeks. The hype over super stud Dice-K is already in full effect as it is. If one of these rookie redemptions happens to be his, SPx could be flying off the shelves faster than his gyro ball.
