Sources: NHL and NHLPA investigating Blackhawks over offers

That would really suck if you lost a couple of really good young players because of an error like that, but Tallon would be responsible for it. It is common practice to have the offers faxed, not mailed.

It's okay. The Blackhawks are one of Gary's chosen teams. This misunderstanding and miscommunication will result in no penalty, and all will be well in the end.

Hopefully that mixup doesn't cost the Hawks a couple of players. Versteeg and Barker would quickly get offers if they were given UFA status.

Well theres one way for the rags to use up some cash:)

seriously though i like the Bhawks, i hope it straightens out.

Exactly what I was thinking. Now if it were the Wings he would have already done something by now.

I love the conspiracy mongers that lurk here.... If you truly believe there is a conspiracy that favors one team or another, you have serious problems. Why be a fan then? It makes no sense to be a fan of a sport you feel is rigged.

Funny, a lot of people tell me I have serious problems, but none of them have anything to do with stuff like this!

Actually, there can be favourites without something being 'rigged.' Just look at when you were in school as a kid. Every teacher had favourites. It wasn't 'rigged' for certain students to get better marks. The favourites just got better marks, even though their work was not much different from everyone else's. It happened, and things went on accordingly.

The NHL is no different. Certain players/teams get suspended for infractions, when the very next game something 99.9% the same happens with a few select teams, and the NHL says 'No, completely different blahblahblah.'

I actually can't understand why you can't admit it, instead telling others they have serious problems for thinking that way. To each his own.

I'd like to speak to this because I am, in fact, a teacher.

While I can't speak for every teacher that ever taught or every school, from my experiences, I know that 99.9% of the time the kids that think there is favouritism are the ones that don't work as hard, act disrespectful, and have their parents bail them out when they smash a window or whatever other stupid thing they have done. It is easier to blame the authority figures for "playing favourites" than to accept personal responsibility.

The window got smashed because the teacher did not tell my son not to throw rocks at it fast enough. The teacher was not supervising properly and now he is picking on my son.

Yes, that happened.

Like you said, the NHL is probably no different.

You going to deny what Bettman does? Chicago is one of his favorites as he NEEDS them to do well because of ratings in the USA (which suck major by the way). Is it wrong? Yes! I'm pointing out he isn't about to lay punishment out to a team he needs to do well.
Lets compare that to the Wings on the other hand. He has the ratings and the support for that team so basically he can do whatever he pleases (Leave them in the west when they should be in the east for example) (Or fine and suspend a couple of their superstar players if the don't show to the all star game).
Also it's nice to see someone who's just joined this forum throw out that myself or Orca is a monger. I guess another Beckett member strikes again!!

Thanks Dr. Spock!?!?

You are sounding like a winey redwings fan. Now being on these boards as long as I have, I know that is not the case. Someone new certainly does not.

Getting back to the topic at hand. Out of irony this actually has happened before if I'm reading this right. Devils in 2000 didn't hand the paperwork in time to the league office and Rafalski along with John Madden were both given UFA status. Both players did re-sign with the Devils but precedent was set before. We'll see if little Mao Bettman has the same rules for all teams! My guess is a big fat NO!!

Thanks Dr. Spock!?!?

I am not sure I know what this means. I know who Spock is. He looks at things logically. ??? Was that it? I assume by the rolling eyes it was a random, unprovoked insult.

The point is, "The League" has no favourites. Thinking they do because they suspend your players or fine them is probably more of an indication of someone not looking at their own team in an objective way.

The Flyers get a lot of suspensions, and I have heard how the league is against them because of it.

Or...would the more logical reason be that the team had a discipline problem?

I think they have, in the past, had a discipline problem. The league has better things to do than pick on the Flyers.

Not sure about anyone else, but I am getting tired of the random insults. I thought the point of a message board was to share insights and make comments that others could take or leave.

Travis..... well said.... I am also a teacher and fully agree with your post in response to Randy ABOUT the teaching analogy. Although I do not agree with all your posts, each one is thought out and clearly explains your point of view. I could care less what anyones point of view is, as long as they discuss it in a respectable manner, differences of opinions are always welcome. Randy, for the first time ever I have to disagree with your post (Solely about the teaching metaphor).... it was bound to happen sooner or later. Does the league have favorites???? Maybe to an extent, especially to an original 6 team, but I would doubt any sort of heavy bias. We will never fully know, and probably never want to fully know what goes on in Bettman's crazy head. That being said, Randy, I dislike your teaching metaphor;)

Well said! I think that was so well said "because you are a teacher". It seems Flyers fans adn Wings fans have been on the "Poor me and my team" wagon for too long. There has never been a similiar situation unlike some like to believe. When the Devils screwed up they did not notify the league. Chicago notified the league, they were late to the players. Not saying it is not big deal but you can't compare apples to oranges and say, told you they are treated differently, they are different situations.

No problem Clay, and you, Travis; everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you should also consider one thing. You both teach elementary school. There's a big difference between elementary school and secondary/post secondary. I won't get in to background (I am not a gloater) but I can guarantee you from first hand experience there is favouritism in HS and college. There will always be favouritism, its everywhere. I only used the school teacher analogy because it was the first thing that popped into my mind. If you would like, I can actually think about it, and come up with a mechanic analogy, a police officer analogy, a street vendor analogy, or maybe even a nuclear physicist analogy.

Point is, there is favouritism, and some people can get away with things others can't. The NHL is no different. They have their teams they will bend over backwards for, they have their marquee players who do not have the same rule book as eveyone else, etc. It's not that it is inherently wrong, it's just that it happens.

And, in this case, the Blackhawks are definitely one of Bettman's pet teams. There's no denying it, he gushes about them every opportunity. Does it upset me? No. Do I have 'serious issues' because I beleive it? No.

:) I know what you mean Randy...... I do believe that there is favoritism in school, I just like to think that I do not abide by those rules... maybe I do subconsciously, but I chose not to believe so. I think that in all aspects of life there is favoritism.... but I chose to believe that it is subconscious, but still relevant. For example, I tend to find that people act differently towards people who are considered attractive, as to those who are considered to be unattractive. I think favoritism is human nature.... hopefully it is not done with any sort of ill will geared towards it. As for Bettman... business is business.... if he does have favoritism, it is more likely to be for a reason, mainly monetary. Hopefully this is not the case, but who really knows?!?!?!
