I think that it's safe to say that most Canuck fans like myself are pleased with the addition of Keith Ballard, Dan Hamhuis (sp) and of course Steve Nashs' brother-in-law... I mean Manny Malhotra. Who although a little more expensive than Kyle Wellwood, should provide better consistency I hope :)

It will be interesting to see if Bieksa gets traded and to who. I also don't think that Mitchell will be back and it's great to see Demitra head to the KHL.

How's your team doing?

Welp. The Avs have signed Yip, and let go of Brett Clark (Thank God) and TJ Hensick, and are currently something like 4-8 million under the league floor. We still need to sign Chris Stewart and Peter Mueller.

I imagine we'll give Stewart and Mueller good money, and then keep our cap hit near the bottom to make it possible to sign Anderson in next year's offseason.

But every day we don't sign Stewart makes me worry.

The Gonchar signing was HUGE for the Sens. We have been lacking a true PP defenseman on this team since... forever! I'd still like to see Murray make a move or 2. I think we need a bit more toughness on defense and a true 2nd line center. Tough to do since we're close to the cap but we'll see what happens

Great signings by Gillis this summer with Ballard and Hamhuis, and all the other additions to the team, i'm super excited for next year!

go :canucks:

I'm hoping the :hawks: don't have to move anymore players :(

They don't have a choice, they only have 10 forwards, 5 defensemen, and 1 goalie signed so far, and are $440K over the cap. Something has to be done, I'm hoping they find a way to move Huet off the cap hit but it's not going to be easy. We can only hope for a miracle like he retires (and whose going to retire and leave that kind of money on the table), or they find a way to trade him to some sucker team. Maybe another team or GM out there owes them a favor, doubt it, but one can hope. If not, they won't have a choice but to move one of the top players. The salary cap is a real bugger, this is the price a team pays for bad contracts (Campbell and Huet), and for drafting and developing good players. It's sad to watch what this team has to do because of the cap.

Gillis has done a great job this summer. He only needs to get Raymond resigned long term and i say he gets a A+. This season cant get here fast enough

It would appear that the :caps: are going to be building through their farm team. :dizzy:

Although that really isn't a bad idea! ;)

The only way a cap system seems to work is when you get the actual players realizing that winning is more important than money, and will take less to play for a winner. You just can't have 4+ players making over 5 million a year (cap hit)...it just eats up to much cash.

The Canucks were smart, they locked in a few "key" guys early, and now players want to play for them, even for less money (Hamhuis). Chicago has screwed themselves for the next few years I think...but winning the Stanley Cup last year will ease some of that pain.

I wasn't to keen on the Canucks having Mike Gillis as a GM, but, he has pleasantly proved me wrong and appears to have a good grasp on how to surviive in a cap system (other than the Sundin deal). Now...if we can only dump Bieksa soon and extend Ehrohoffs' contract for a few more years, I will be happy  Alberts is a bum too, but you dont get a lot for 1 million any more.

Re signed Prust, CHristensen, Prospal, Girardi

Nabbed Biron, Boogard, Eminger

Traded away Sanguinetti for picks (.....................)

Signed Stepan (captain of US world juniors team)

Drafted hulking Mcilrath (6-4 210 lbs) 10th overall

The only question mark I might have (because I cant go back in time and keep Sanguinetti) is with their draft choice, but then again, i suppose a hulking dman with a cannon shot is a safe bet compared to some of the other players out there at the time. By the same respects, they dumped Sanguinetti and grabbed Eminger? The back end of the D core is looking sketchy.

Until we dump Redden, I will not consider this offseason a success.... ;)

It's been so-so.
The good:
Resigned Coburn and traded a 2nd rounder for Meszaros. Ended up moving Parent, who we weren't going to re-sign, for a 7th and a 3rd. Zherdev at a low price. Carcillo re-signs for low.
The bad:
Lost Asham. Will have to trade Gagne to meet the cap. No true proven goalie.
The ugly:
Jody Shelley at $1.1M for 3 years. Still baffling.

Pretty ok at most

Traded Halak probably the worst move..
Re singed Tommy good good move
Signed Avitstyn good prospect
Aquired Eller nice Prospect
Re signed Lapierre good think

Not too bad at all but could be better

This is the most excited I have been over an offseason in quite some time - the Canucks actually adressed the needs that were staring them in the face, got some grit on the blueline and equally important was the Maholtra signing. That will take some of the defensive pressure off of Kesler, give them two strong lines and one of the best faceoff men in the game.

Now if we can just get Vigneault to coach like Quenville when it matters and we will be in real good shape.

My Leafs are currently tied for first place overall in the 2010/11 season, so the summer is going great!

Still hoping Burke finds a decent centreman in return for Kaberle - only a month to go before the no trade kicks back in.

:)

I like what the Habs have done in the offseason so far. Although nothing Earth shattering, that's OK since an upheavel like the previous offseason wasn't necessary and so now it's just minor business/adjustments and a hope and expectation that they carry over their success from the end of the season and the playoffs into a full season this coming year.

The only big signings will be Plekanec and inevitably Price so everything else is just a rounding out of the roster and they've made smart moves without cuffing themselves.

I'll step aside from any Price vs. Halak talk. I'm OK with them sticking to a long term plan in going with Price and backing him up with Auld along with Curtis Sanford in the minors should he need to be called up. So I really like the Auld signing. At $1M, he knows and looks forward to the veteran backstop role in Montreal. Lars Eller may very well be on the roster and if he plays well and if Price plays well then any talk about moving Halak will be overlooked and forgotten.

Letting go of Moore and Metropolit in favour of youth is a smart move. Montreal has a lot of 3rd and 4th liners that now have more experience under their belt. I like the Sergei Kostitsyn for Dustin Boyd trade (Also getting goalie Dan Ellis was smart tho he has signed with Tampa Bay and the Habs have Auld). SK is more skilled, but he was a lot of trouble in the dressing room. Boyd will fit in nicely on the 3rd and 4th lines.

Letting go of Bergeron and Mara is no loss. Bergeron has a great shot on the PP, but is slow, recently had surgery and doesn't have much upside especially considering Subban has shown he is NHL ready. You can look at Subban getting a spot on the roster as a "move" that will better the Habs.

I see these as potential lines:

Forwards:
Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
A. Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Cammalleri
Moen - Lapierre - Pyatt
Eller - Boyd - Pacioretty
Darche

Defence:
Markov - Spacek
Hamrlik - Gorges
Gill - Subban
O'Byrne

Goal:
Price
Auld

The only issue I see is that Montreal could use another strong Top 6 forward, but there won't be any room under the cap to get someone and I don't think a big trade is necessary. Pouliot will have to prove that he belongs on a top line with Gomez and Gionta. Gomez and Gionta will need to earn their salaries. Andrei will have to bring back what he's capable of. If the top 6 meet expectations then there is little that can stop Montreal. The offensive potential is there, but I think that's what everyone will be looking for this year - production.

The defence is strong. No question marks. Consider an almost full season from Markov this year alone can bring them over the top.

All eyes will be on Price. But I think the goaltending in Montreal is solid. Halak was spectacular last year, yes. But it's going to take an entire team effort for Montreal to go far again this year.

In:

Arnott
Volchenkov
Tallinder
Hedberg

Out:

Danis
Pandolfo
Peters
?

Staying:

Clarkson
Kovalchuk

This team is going to be something else depending on who is moved for cap reasons.

The Kovalchuk signing basically assures us that one of the Devils top prospects (Tedenby, Josefson) will make the team, too = quality RCs!
