So crazy surprises out there so far, who you got?

My pick is for Khabibulin. He didnt face many shots the other night vs the Rags, but damn he looked solid.

Ah well, I had a poll in there but browser crashed. My choices were

Kessel
Khabibulin
Spezza/Michalek
The Nuge
Lehtonen
Garon
WAS 7-0 start
CBJ 0-7 start
other...

a crazy surprise in my opinion is the habs.. didnt think they would go this low in the standings this early in the season or ever this season... hopefully they could make the playoffs?

Easily the Habs being at the bottom of the East. Many of us had pretty strong hopes for this year...

Sticking with the title in this thread, The AWESOME trade Brian Burke made to get Phil Kessel, Hes looking like a genius, You can[t deny the fact that kessel is leading the league in points and goals up to this point. Thats a big surprise

At this point - Kessl and Versteeg have suprised me greatly.

I am also somewhat suprised that Kesler is back so soon, I was thinking sometime after Thanksgiving (American that is)

For me Lehtonen's fantastic start isn't the biggest surprise, but to see him appearing to come into his own has been great.

The biggest surprise for me is that Columbus is still winless, you figure that by this point they would have been able to eek out at least one, but like last night they keep finding ways to lose.

Awesome? Genius?
Boston got at least 1 franchise player in that trade in Seguin, and there is no knowing how good Dougie Hamilton will be, and to top it off, Boston won the cup last season. Without Seguin, i don't think they would have beaten Tampa in the 3rd round.

This seems like one of those rare win/win trades...but at the moment, Boston won this trade.

As good as Kessel has been early this season, I wouldn't call this a great trade. Is he really worth 2 top 14 picks (including a 2nd overall)? No

Seguin looks like he's going to be an awesome player and we will see how Hamilton turns out but he also looks like a blue chip prospect.

Kessel is good but I'd rather have Seguin and Hamilton

I think Nugent Hopkins is a huge surprise. I really didn't think he'd make the team. Habs are a huge disappointment although their D has been hit hard with injuries

The biggest surprise to me is Columbus struggling so bad.

I am not surprised at the Leafs as I really had expectations that they would be better this season. Lets hope Reimer is only gone for a game or 2 and that they bring up Scrivens and plays him.

I think the deal is working good for both sides not to mention that things worked out great for the Leafs with the Kaberle deal:beer: I was happy to see Kessel as a Leaf and I am still happy with the deal.

I'm not terribly surprised by Kessel.

He was 19 years old and scored 36 goals, how many guys can say that? Less than a handful.

When he was drafted he was considered to be the "American Crosby" in terms of skill. He fell to #5 because he was a little awkward of a dude lol.

I heard a stat the other day that said only 7 or so players have 3 straight 30 goal years.... Iginla, Crosby, Ovechkin, Nash, Carter, Ryan and.... Kessel. He's also THE YOUNGEST PLAYER from that group.

There is also the fact his center is Bozak and he contrinously scores 30+ goals which is amazing in and of itself.

Kessel would be a bonafide 40+ goal man with a good center and I don't think anyone in the hockey world would disagree with that.

Anyways, long story short, it's quite possible the Bruins win that deal, and it could be likely as long as both Seguin/Hamilton pan out to be above average players... however the Leafs didn't get swindled here. They got a #1 line winger who is 23 years old and a potential perennial 40+ goal man at $5.4M. That's not a terrible deal. This wasn't a Markus Naslund for Alex Stajanov type move. At worst it's a slight edge to Boston in the 55:45 ratio split lol.

It's obvious how I feel.... It's getting rather depressing to watch the Jackets play.

They really need to mix it up. With how great Jonathan Quick is playing lately, I think it's time to flood the LA Kings with offers for Jonathan Bernier.

Mason + David Savard/Cam Atkinson, and 2nd round pick?

I am not as surprised with Kessel as other may be. He has the skill to be good, so I am happy he is doing well as opposed to being surprised.

He has the skill to be great. But I still wouldnt give up 2 top picks for him. If he proves me wrong this year or 5 years from now, so be it, I have a signed jersey of his on the wall of my room so I'm happy.

As far as the Leafs go, I am more surprised they are doing well than Kessel :| As for teams like MTL and BOS, it is early, and things can be turned around in 3 games. However the start Columbus is having may be too rough to overcome already (again, I hope they prove me wrong).

Kessel is a very good player Ernie and I believe he's actually just now coming into his own. He seems more dedicated to becoming a complete player.

That being said, not many players are worth 2 high 1st round picks and Kessel isn't one of them. That's just my opinion :)
