Not sure if I can really explain why I don't like it, I just have never been a huge fan of the designs. Of course its valuable, so most people love to break it open anyway, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one on HI who really isn't a fan of The Cup. And if so, what don't you like about it (aside from the price point, ha ha).

You aren't the only one. Aside from the price which is insultingly high for the general quality (ITG Ultimate is the superior product in my eye, and they do not often come out of the pack with frayed edges, damaged swatch windows, bend corners, etc.), I just do not care for the rookies at all, and their same old players over and over and over do not inspire me with any confidence. Hasn't Bobby Orr autographs in Upper Deck products been milked to death, or do people still care anymore?

For me, the big kicker is that it all comes to the player selection. I do not enjoy the hobby to resell everything for as big a profit as possible. For this reason, I certainly wouldn't spend $500+ that could go to a better venture for my collection on a product focused on rookies and the same old same old guys over and over and over and over (how many times do you need a Brad Richards autograph). "But there's 1/1s" has been a counterpoint against this logic of mine once...but the question nowadays is, what doesn't have a 1/1 nowadays?

And this year's Cup design is almost as bad as the 2006-07 one. So bland, and unappealing to the senses.

I chase some of the rookies for personal collections or to flip, but for the most part I'm not a fan. I sure as heck would never consider even wasting my money on a tin.

I am not a fan of UD inserting cards from last year's Cup, that would make me mad if I actually busted product.

Everyone says "collect what you want"..collect what makes it fun for you etc etc..
The turn around on some cards "because it's THE CUP" and one's expectation on even base is outreageous to me.It's a card I need for my collection BUT don't need it that bad for the price; because one needs to recoup what they spent--the ugly business side of A hobby.
I do have some CUP cards in my collection but waited till the hype went down ,plus why would anyone put a premium ona SABRES card?

I too, am not a fan of the cup this year. Some of the designs are alright, others are kind of boring. The price is outrageous, $580+tax here near Buffalo, and after seeing Prime and a Preview for Dominion, the Cup in general is alittle boring and very overrated in my opinion. I was more excited in previous years, but I think Panini is finally starting to interest me more.

Afternoon,

I do not own a single Cup card from any year. Partly because who I collect are never in the set..lol
But honestly I feel I could get more value for my monies if I bought singles from the market.
If I really had serious funds like a few collectors here, then perhaps I would break down and bust a few cases..lol
But I doubt that would ever happen.

Chance

I have never really seen a cup design I have liked and on top of that any of the rookies I would have gotten from them would have cost an arm and a leg so I've stayed pretty far away from it in general unless it was a deal too good to be true

Gretzky redemption again this year? haha considering the price point im not that really impressed seeing alot of redemptions on ebay i think cup is not that cool what it once was it just seems its getting more expensive each year without that much of a difference and the design is not that appealing either.

I like the design, but not the price. Singles are the way forward unless you get a hit, of course.

Regarding memorabilia cards in the Cup I prefer the designs to anything Panini have ever put out. Not wanting to start UD/Panini war - just that, out of the two licensed manufacturers, I prefer UD's output.!

Same here!!! They did that with Ultimate as well...Im just not a UD fan in general...IT is my brand...always will be and Pain seems to be giving UD a run fir it's money...player selection ,cards fro last year, too many redemptions all the time, decoys in a $500 a pack product!!!!!!...not to mention plain jersey cards...NOT patches, jerseys...this is why i. Not a fan

Add me to the list for this reason
*random RC from ebay scan not mine

The RC's have a small photo area on the front and no designation of the team logo. In theory ITG can make the same card and not even have to crop or shade out the logo. UD needs to take advantage of there licence use logos on the front and bigger player pics

After the first year, they just keep recycling the same sets and players mostly. Sure they added POE and scripted sticks and I am sure others, but its mostly the same from year to year. Do I really need 5 different Stanley Cup signatures of Hejduk...no, not really, unless the design gets me, which it does not this year. I am looking forward to Dominion this year.
