So I guess this makes almost two years I've been working away at this subset of ITG's History Of Hockey Great Moments In Hockey History. For those that don't know (most everyone I'm guessing), this is a 144 card set featuring artwork and memorabilia from some of the defining moments in hockey. This set caught my eye on release for a couple of reasons. First was the general theme of the set, to celebrate and remember some of the greatest moments of the game we love. Most sets are rather generic, narrow in their scope, or generally non-existent. Second, the checklist of moments spans the entire spectrum of the game, from near turn of the century to the new millennium. Third, there is some really good artwork in these cards that can be admired. That being said, there are admittedly some duds as well. Lastly, with the checklist you knew you were going to get some great pieces from the ITG inventory. Cards 1-40 all feature original on-card artwork and are technically numbered to 1, although there are 10 original copies of each. They feature both vintage and modern players/memorabilia. Cards 41-80 are numbered to 10 and showcase mostly all vintage and what I like to call deep vintage, you know, REALLY old stuff. Cards 81-144 feature a mix of old and new, skewing slightly to newer pieces, but with a lot of really nice vintage mixed in. There are /40 versions and /10 parallels. You will notice that some of my cards are /10. In the cases where I could find a nicer piece of memorabilia, I upgraded, which usually resulted in me getting a /10 card. In fact I have one upgraded card in the mail as we speak. I'm over 75% completed on the 1-40 and 41-80 sets and will show them off one day when I finally complete them. The plan is to display these in my office when I by a house next year. I think they look great together. Enough of my long-winded babbling, here are the cards:

I'll be messing around with a grid and stuff later on, but just wanted to show this off as I just got the last card for the set last week!

Very nice this product didn't get much love, but like you I do like the memorabilia side of it. I have been picking up some of the /10 as I really like the vintage pieces, can not wait to see the rest of it when you complete it.

Those are amazing cards!!
My 2 favorites are
Giacomins return to the Gardens. I remember seeing the Giacomin talk abt it on HOF Legends of the Game.

Also like the one on the Flyerswin 35 straight. really cool mask in the pic!
I was trying to figure the pic of the goalie out. As this isn't Bernie Parent. Bernie wore #1
Is this Phil Myre?

You are correct sir, Phil Myre!

One thing I don't like about that card is that the Flyers didn't WIN 35 straight, but rather were undefeated through 35. They were 25-0-10 in that run.

What a beautiful chronicle of the past. Congrats, well done and thank you for sharing.

My favorite is "The Save"

Believe or not but that's actually my idea!
Dr.Price asked me about some ideas and I came up with Captain Kirk's save against Robert Reichel during the OT of 7th game between CGY and VAN in 1994 Stanley Cup.

If McLean didn't made that save so the history could been different then, so the legendary battle between NYR and VAN should never been existed then....

So many nice cards here!
Mike Richter's save against Pavel Bure is also an favorite, no doubt the greatest penalty save ever along with the save of Salo on the final of Olympics-94!

love the set, I have the ovechkin card and it looks great in person, thanks for sharing the progress and good luck tracking down the rest

Bill - that looks even better than I thought it would! Excellent choice on what to pursue. Can't wait to see the finished 144 master set completed - keep us posted on the progress!

Wow, all I can say is wow!

You're absolutely right, no one else can do sets like these other than ITG. These cards are so amazing, a nice variety of memorabilia from past to present (and can't wait to see the even more vintage stuff as you complete the other portions), and the artwork truly captures moments that resonate with so many fans (as painful a reminder as it can be seeing the ones that came at the Canucks expense).

I know ITG got a fair amount of scorn for the nickle and dime rookie cards and ITG buybacks in the product, but they sure did a great job on at least one card per pack. If i hadn't spent my whole non-Sedin budget on Lord Stanley's Mug this is definitely a set I would have wanted to chase, alas I'll live vicariously through you and look forward to your next show!
