Well, Chicago figured out a way to get rid of Bickells contract, throw in a 21 year old stud!!! The two of them go to the Canes for a 2nd this year and a 3rd next year!!! Wowzers, nice steal Carolina!!!

Chicago got FLEECED.

Hawk fans have known this deal was going to happen for awhile now. It's purely a cap move and Teuvo has not lived up to the hype anyways, moving farther and farther down Q's depth chart. They want to keep Shaw and have a legitimate shot at signing Panarin long term, if you have to choose between Teuvo or Artemi, you're keeping Artemi. They also have some kids ready to step into the lineup who can take Teuvo's place, so moving almost $5 million in dead space cap hits was a smart move.

They are not done dealing yet, someone else is headed out that should turn some heads.

With the bonuses that kicked in for Panarin - that will actually make their 2016-17 cap max lower since the overage on the bonuses should be applied to it as those bonuses would've taken them over on 2015-16 if my interpretation is right. But these are the kind of moves that they'll have to make with the long term deals to Kane, Toews, Seabrook and Keith along with their cap numbers.

And if you want to get rid of dead weight with significant cap hits - you either pay in higher draft picks or younger talent that can play now.

That's what happens when you blow over 42 million in cap space on your starting 6. Guess Hossa didn't want to move or nobody was taking him (its too early to Cap floor his contract anyways).

With Teräväinen and Panarin both RFA's after next season Hawks could only afford to keep one of them. I'm good with the trade because it finally rids them of Bickell. Hawks played a lot of guys during the season that can take Teuvo's place on the third line.
