Just a heads up for anyone bidding on this auction that this card has been altered. It was originally a bgs 8.5. The front top left corner had a small issue but the back top left corner was practically missing when it was a bgs 8.5. See pics below. The card doesn’t appear to have been trimmed. The back top left corner was reconstructed somehow. It’s sad that someone is probably going to pay $50k+ for this card without knowing its history.

Current eBay listing:

The world of document restoration has been around for a LONG time, but originally to preserve paper documents of historic value. Now these techniques are being used to restore ‘paper’ in out hobby, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the graders aren’t able to or can’t detect the restorations. We’re lucky many of these are serial numbers so that it makes it a little easier to detect.

With all the hot water that PWCC is in, one would think it would be in their best interests right now to research cards for suspicious activity, prior to consigning an auction for a $30-50K card.
Heck, they should be doing a research check on anything they plan to list over $500....at least that's what I would do if I owned the company.

This is really making it hard for me to consider buying anything further from them after seeing continued crap like this still popping up!

LOL you'd think so!! stuuuuupid

It's ridiculous that the grading companies don't record the serial numbers printed on the cards in their database. It would save them some embarrassment.

It's definitely been trimmed. If you look at the back of the card, in the upper left corner near where the Oilers logo is, there are blue angled lines that you can reference. On the 8.5 you can see the middle of the 5th angled blue line meets the edge of the card. In the 10 you can see its the right side of the 5th angled blue line that meets the edge of the card.

I don't know why ANYONE would pay for graded cards from PWCC at present.

I agree 100% with this. But I would have never bought anything from them even before the scandal. But right now I believe that only a handful of people even know about what recently happenings. The biggest influence getting the knowledge out about this is on these trade groups. And really only a very small percentage of collector visit these sites.
