Really $1000 a box and 12,000 for a case? Why the huge price hike? Jaw dropped when I saw rookie anthology for $250, but I can’t figure out any reason why this would be that much, especially with many of the best rookies were in anthology.

There is a hobby shop I only occasionally go to which two months ago had those boxes for $99.99 a box (even at that price, I find it hard to justify a box of it, but that is just me). I went back a couple of weeks ago and noticed the price per box was now around $299.99 for the same box and the reason given was that "the price was going up everywhere and other websites have it for X amount" so the price had to go up as a result. I'm not a fan of the reasoning, but to each their own.

Prizm went bananas because of basketball and football money. They were looking for the next thing to invest in. Prizm is a known brand in those circles.

If you wanna see insanity, look at 12-13 Prizm prices.

So it’s just companies trying to capitalize, makes sense. I was just wondering if there was something from those boxes that had a revival. I can’t remember anything remarkable from that set and boxes were $30 ish a year or two ago, if I remember correctly.

They couldn’t give those boxes away at $70; they are going to collect cobwebs forever at that price.

Nathan Mackinnon. Ovie prizm. Sid the kid prizm to name a few

The answer on this is NO...it is HOCKEY...Not BBALL, Trout or FB RCs. I looked at Blowout over the holiday...they are $1,000 a box. Almost NONE of the Hockey they have is really the price ANYONE is willing to pay.

Like Q said above, the brand is synonymous with low print runs and high value in the other sports,as Hockey collectors we were jaded when Panini stepped into the professional sports card market and flooded us with Prizm. But,heres hoping it goes through the roof as i have a full 2,500 box of Prizm colors and pulsars.;)

They're not selling to us. They're selling to "investors" who think they know better. I'm not going to disabuse them of the notion.

I have done some research on this matter and 13-14 Select has also gone up in value in terms of boxes, but the only silver prizms that are worth anything are Ovie and Sid. Literally every other one is pennies and of course there are the big rookies such as Mackinnon. As people have mentioned in this thread it is just people looking to capitalize on investors trying to make a fast buck. I remember this stuff being given away at $50 a box at my LCS, so this fad will not last.

My local shop has this years football coming in, and he is only gonna get two boxes of the Prizm football from his distributor. He is asking $1000 a box. He has such a high demand for it from local collectors, that he has to do a random draft for the two lucky people to buy them. Yet the highest valued Prizm rookie is a Kucherev for $50. All I can say is the world has gone mad.

Prizm Craze over Prizm base `rc`s`. Superstar players selling for solid coin in all other sports. Havent check but pretty sure Ovie and Sid Prizm base are selling for good money. Taught it was a great looking set when it came out but always taught it wasent going to pick up in hockey. Checked my common box but the only relevant base i could find was Lou.

You guys forgot to mention world cup prizm soccer prices. 2014, and the european brands were bananas for awhile but they have since gone back to a sense of normalcy. The ironic part about all of this is that they are commons and you get several silvers and base cards per box. It's all about supply and demand and right now the demand of these cards is the hottest in the hobby.

I've learned from the soccer explosion that the investment crowd like simple (few base rc short prints) and shiny (chrome and prizm) sets. Timo Werner has cards as far back as 13-14, but his shiny and accessible 18-19 cards are the ones to have.

The closest product we have is OPC Platinum... I fear for box prices if the hype machine is still rolling come Springtime.

You gotta love when these kind of things happen. You open this stuff when it is new, and sock away the pretty ones whether they're valuable or not. Time passes, and you kind of forget they are there. Then this thread comes along and you say to yourself "Hey, I think I put some of that away back in the day".

And then you find 60 of them.

And the top one is this one.

And then you say "Maybe I should dig deeper".
