ok, gotta vent.
I've always hated shipping intl pkgs.
But I sold a $20 card, bubble mailer 4 oz only $20 DV.
Not ebay.. so I tell buyer $5 I'll cover the rest. I figured $9 max.
Freaking $14.25 on a $20 card.
Thats it, no more Intl.. has to be a better way.
End rant.. Thx.

I understand that completely.

I cannot tell you how many people get mad when I charge $8 to ship to USA. eBay and PayPal take 13% of that and it costs me $8.30 to ship so I actually lose money on the shipping.

I’m sure there are ways to get around the system but that is the cost to ship a bubble mailer with a sports card inside it.

Yes it is not only about $14 for small envelope, but the customs form at USPS is the size of the entire thing. The worst seems to be that it takes 3 days to mail small item from Canada to US, but 3 weeks to go from US to Canada.

When I'm buying from ANYONE in the US, I know that I'm going to have to pay $14 for shipping. Most Canadians do.

There are ways with PayPal shipping and choosing documents and whatnot that will charge closer to $4, but I think technically it's mail fraud. I haven't gotten that desperate yet. But yes, it does suck shipping from US to Canada. It seems like only a few years ago that it was $5 or so. Usually technology makes things cheaper over time, but this seems to be the opposite.

I do not understand why there is such a difference in postage from sellers in the US.I agree that it seems most are in and around $10-$12 for a padded envelope. But I have bought a few cards lately from a seller in Oregon and he charges $3.95 in a padded envelope with tracking. And when the package arrives it actually has $3.95 postage on it.So it is not like he is cutting me a deal on postage. It certainly appears to me that is what the postage is.But it is the same going the other way as well.If we are shipping from Canada to the USA than there are all kinds of postal rates. But we all know that if we do not like what our postal services are charging. Then we can always use a courier service. And we all know what their rates are. I do not sell anymore so postage is not something I worry about. And if I do sell to the US then it will be shipped with tracking and insurance or it will not be shipped. Unless of course it is a $ few dollar item and then it really does not matter. Just my observations.

Didn't expect shipping to the States would be that pricey wow! A friend of mine in the States was going to do a trade with me as well. What's the cheapest it'd be for me to send it to the States without tracking?

At my post office it is $8.32 for a small packet air no tracking option. This is required as soon as there is something other than paper in the package. So if you are sending a card it will be in some sort of plastic card and therefore should be going at this rate.

I think if you tell them it is only paper inside you can ship for about $4 but then it goes through different sorters and has a better chance of being damaged. That’s what I’ve been told anyway.

I ship hundreds of packages monthly to the USA with the $3.19 postage on it. Never had an issue with damaged cards yet, knock on wood.

Same here. I take 'em to the PO and they say I can't send them. I put the postage on myself and drop 'em in the box and no issues.

I go to Gray's(Canada post) in town. Never had an issue shipping the cheapest rate. $3.19 for a small packet and I don't have to fill out customs form. I have had maybe 1 have damage in like 12+ years.

My post office knows whats inside and don't care! They say the bubble envelope is made with plastic inside of it so how can they say only paper can be shipped! LOL

Buyers do..

It depends. If it's a low-end card, then I'm out. It just blows the price out of the water.

However, if it's a higher-end/rare piece for my PC, I don't mind GSP as I know it will be tracked all the way and I can justify that price increase on the final sale price because it's a great piece for my collection at the end of the day.

I understand the pull of the GSP for many sellers, as it gives them piece of mind knowing that once their card arrives at ebay's shipping centre, it's out of their hands and there is no risk of the buyer trying to pull a fast one on them. So I see the benefits from their perspective, even if I don't like the price increase on my end.

The majority of the sellers I talk to that use the GSP are not aware of the actual charges incurred by the buyer.
