Your Hobby Goals & Resolutions For 2022

My 2020 goal was simple:

Overall no set goals in sight so let’s say getting to 2500 unique Roy cards for my PC.

However I did not manage to hit the mark only at 2344 with about 10 sitting at COMC.

So I guess for 2021 it will be the same goal to hit 2500 unique Roy cards for the PC.

Yet again I missed my 2020 and 2021 marks of 2500 unique but I am very close now.

2466 in hand and 9 at COMC.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 2500 unique in 2022!

My goals from last year were as follows: percentages and goals from last year below
Nathan Horton Stats:
All cards: 915/1187 = 77.1%
all cards excluding 1/1's: 869/1000 = 86.9%
rookie cards: 37/37 = 100%
autographs: 157/206 = 76.2%
memorabilia: 367/473 = 77.6%
serial: 576/789 = 73%

Ovechkin starts:
all cards: 2181/7665 = 28.5%
all cards excluding 1/1's: 2180/6157 = 35.4%
rookies: 15/18 = 83.3%
autographs: 56/1479 = 3.8%
memorabilia: 674/3424 = 19.7%
serial: 767/5324 = 14.4%

I would love to keep increasing my Nathan Horton percentages and it would be nice to keep my overall ovechkin percentage without 1/1's at about the same spot.
___________________________________________________________________

My current stats as of Dec 13/21 are listed next for Horton and Ovechkin
Nathan Horton Stats
All cards: 925/1194 77.5%
All cards excluding all 1/1: 878/1005 87.4%
Rookie: 37/37 100.0%
Autograph: 157/206 76.2%
Memorabilia: 374/480 77.9%
Serial: 583/795 73.3%

I was able to increase my percentage slightly again this year and was very lucky to have some new cards to chase from Leaf which was probably the highlight of the year for me. For Horton I will continue to add jersey numbered cards to the collection, low serial numbered doubles and try to purchase cards that are still on my wantlist.

Ovechkin Stats:
All cards: 2347/8000 29.3%
All cards excluding all 1/1: 2346/6434 36.5%
Rookie: 15/18 83.3%
Autograph: 56/1484 3.8%
Memorabilia: 689/3519 19.6%
Serial: 821/5531 14.8%

I was very patient this year in adding Ovechkin cards and was impressed that I increased by one percent in my ovechkin cards excluding 1/1's. I was very patient this year and almost exclusivly bought from COMC or auctions on ebay. I plan on doing the same in the new year. With Ovechkin prices continuing to increase , it has made it very easy to avoid low serial numbered cards and wait for items to surface on COMC.

I plan on continuing to add to my Matt Johnson collection when I'm able too and continue to post on instagram as the positive format is very refreshing.

For 2022 goals:

1) Pick up a Vezina rookie
2) Keep archiving and thin out the collection for non-pc items
3) Stop breaking wax!!!
4) Keep having fun!

And 2021 goals were:

1) Score a key graded RC for the PC (Vezina or Howe) - scored a "well-loved" Howe
2) Photo archive my cards, not just the graded ones - progressing
3) Stop breaking wax boxes and just buy the cards I like (may break this one for Metal) - failed miserably
4) Keep a positive attitude with the hobby - it's easy to ignore the negative!
5) It's just a hobby so have fun! - success

2022 goals for me:
1) see how far I can get on my set of 02-03 UD Mask collection

Ending 2021:
1) review look over all that I was fortunate enough to get this year
2) plan for 2022

I’ve identified the Sidney Crosby 2005 Ultra Ice Medallion RC /25 as my holy grail. Not confident I will ever get one much less in 2022 but the hunt is officially on.

Being out of the hobby for ages, but still lurking on the side, I've picked up a new PC.
So I guess my resolution is to enjoy finding new cards and hopefully finding new cards for my prior PCs (of which there are like... 11 total).

I ended up picking up over 100 cards for the new Ray Ferraro PC (including finding a 1/1 plate!) and had a lot of fun finding early-00s cards for it.

As for finding new cards for my Garrison and Corrado PCs, they were minimal, but there will still a couple finds including a 1/1 plate for both PCs, and a very old team issued card for Garrison.

As for 2022, probably more of the same: Enjoy finding new cards and building the Ferraro collection, and hopefully add more fun pieces to the Garrison and Corrado collections.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I remember those main PC's of yours back in the day. Glad to see you are still adding some things!

Goals for 2022 top 5

1. I Will trying to find my last missing 1996-97 Score AP #173 Linden(My a little whale)

2. Find all 1990-91 Score Promos to complete Masters Set.

3. Today's numbers are 11186/12580... I hope My 90s Score total start 117** on December 2022.

4. More 1997-98 Score platinums and Premier.

5. What Else? Let see. It's fun that you never no what you find next year. Maybe 1994-95 Score platinum checklist

-Marko

One of my goals is to get back to my roots of collecting, do the series 1 and 2 sets and work on the other sets I've started. My resolution, not to do the UD French set. It was fun but extensive and still missing about 20 YG's.

1- Locate/aquire one of the 4 cards i am missing from Luguentz Dort Prizm Draft Picks.

2- Locate/aquire Dort Contenders Premium (Holo) , Status green rookie variation /49. ( Saw 1 on insta but owner from Asia wouldnt budge)

3- Getting rid of multiple Brandon Clarke Prizm PSA slab and 2018 WC soccer before there worthless again.

4- Sell a few Dort piece to do my house siding and maybe windows without taking a dime from my pockets. (Comc , Paypal , USD bank account balance)

These were my goals from last year:
1) I'll shift my concentration on Scott Stevens cards from 94/95 to 95/96. I have 91 cards on my 95/96 checklist, 64 of which I already own, so I'll be looking for the remaining 27.
Result: Success! Everything is either in hand, in my COMC port or in the mail. The last need was the 1995-96 All-Star Jumbo card and a seller listed a whole bunch of them a couple of weeks ago.

2) While shelving has improved my floor space, I've fallen behind on pages and binders. I've got about 4 cards lying around that I'd like to get sorted, though this is also a matter of availability, since I think the supply market is great affected by the pandemic.
Result: Mixed success. I finally got around to buying some binders and pages, but I've only begun to fill them so there is still plenty of organizing left.

3) Continue with the 1994-95 Upper Deck master set project. Start 1995-96, Series 2.
Result: Fail. Not really of my own making. A number of the Electric Ice parallel have simply proved difficult to find, though I'm down to needing 34. However I'm down to only needing 3 Predictors.

4) Continue with the 2000-01 Aurora master set project.
Result: Mixed success. I wish I knew where I was at the start of the year. Maybe there were around 80-something needs. Now I'm down to 52. Like goal #3, much of this is out of my hands.

5) I enjoyed the monthly goal of finding a nameplate card. While my nameplate is complete, I'd like to keep going with something else. Maybe a 2005-06 single from the Cup (or any high-end set that I already have some singles from) or a 90s insert. We'll see!
Result: Mixed success. I never settled in a single project, but just grabbed some singles from The Cup and certain 90s inserts - Hart Hopefuls, Atomic Refractors, Epix Emerald, Totally Certified Platinum Gold and Z-Team. Since many of these sets have dried up, it would be very difficult to concentrate on one and expect to add something each month.

My 2022 goals are pretty boring since they're mostly continuing my 2021 goals.
1) Move on to completing my 1996-97 Scott Stevens checklist. There are 75 items and I have 48, so coincidentally I'll need 27 yet again. I just hit 900 cards. In a few years maybe I'll break 1,000.
2) I've got the binders and pages, now I need to fill them!
3) Since 1994-95 has stalled, I want to get started with the 1995-96 set, which I already have much of Series 1. I have 2 boxes of Series 2 to open, then it will be a matter of filling in needs.
4) Keep adding to the 2000-01 Aurora project. If anyone can help with my Aurora or 94-95 Upper Deck sets, my want list is here. Thanks!
5) Still going to add to my Cup and 90s collections, but I've also had a NJ Devils RC collection (RC of every player who has appeared in a game for the Devils) that I've worked on in the past that I'd like to get going again.

My collection plans have changed as of late with a recent deal I made. I have been collecting over 50 years from the age of 7 and I always thought there would come a point that I could pass on my collection to my kids. Well, my lady let me know that the kids although appreciative, are not really hockey fans or collectors of cards, nor do they want to be. Soooooo, I believe I will be downsizing the collection as it has gotten too big. Seriously, who needs 20 something cards out a print run of 50 or 100, lol? So my plans are to start moving out pieces in the New Years, and if I want to collect something else it might be movie signed posters and Hot Toy pieces for my OTHER collection interests, lol. Anyways, I'm at peace with it and it might make room for other things in my life. Best of the season to everyone and Happy New Years! -Mike

Got back into my collection earlier this year so no goals from last year. This year I'd like to accomplish the following:

1. Bust a hobby case of MVP or Upper Deck s1 or s2. Never done a hobby case before, did a case of blasters earlier this year.

2. Land a 1/1 ( non buyback non show stamp) for the Klesla or Modano PC

3. Finish a release year for one of the PCs: base, insert, parallel, GU, auto, plate etc.

4. Get the collection better organized. Nail down the wantlist, inventory the stuff I have. Get it all scanned.

5. Have 75 copies of the Sanderson/Klesla dual patch from 02-03 Crown Royale. Currently have 48 so this might be doable.

Cool idea Aaron!

I've been on & off a lot in the hobby last few years but 2021, maybe because of the pandemic got me right back into the hobby and I have more fun than ever!

- My first goal for 2022 is to continue to grow my Martin Biron PC, hopefully get past the 500 cards and more...

- I'd like to find some more 2012-13 Autofacts Cards, got 1 this year, some are pretty tough to find, I'm 8 away to complete the set.

- I'd like to add some cool pieces to my man cave and grew my instagram account so I can meet some new people and see a lot of amazing cards and memorabilia! (@markbegin_sportsmaniac) give it a follow!

Good luck to all on your goals, happy holidays and happy collecting!
