The 23/24 version of Synergy released today, and while busting a couple boxes came across some cards that were not on the recently released checklist. As of right now, there are 4 players I've noticed who have cards in Synergy that were either unexpected, or probably shouldn't have been included altogether.

The unexpected:

Logan Stankoven DAL - Debuted Feb 24, but has cards in at least the Light Up The Night set.

Mavrik Bourque DAL - Debuted April 6, has cards in the Cranked Up and Light Up The Night sets.

The 'probably shouldn't be in here:

Sebastian Cossa DET - Has yet to play a game in the NHL, and to my knowledge, has not backed up a game either. Has cards in both the Cranked Up and Light Up The Night sets.

Noel Gunler CAR - Played in the AHL in 21/22 and 22/23, and back in Sweden this past season. No NHL game experience. Has cards in both the Cranked Up and Light Up The Night sets.

Unless Cossa and Gunler were apart of that COVID list of exempt players that could get cards made before playing, odd to see them represented in this set.

Also curious going forward if Stankoven will be in subsequent releases this year as he was probably going to be a big draw for early 24/25 products including Series 1.

It sounds like someone at UD messed up. Stankoven is already on the sellsheet be shown off on a rookie card for 2024-25 Artifacts so including him in 2023-24 products is a mistake. As for Cossa, a quick search on capfriendly shows that he has never been recalled to the NHL (thus never backed up a game) and is not eligible for that reason. This situation reminds me of when they but Byfield jersey cards in 2020-21 Series 2.

Well, at least they are insert cards and not what most people consider True RC's... but really... how does someone miss that, especially with Stankhoven?

NGL i think its cool how the base cards are /14 in this set but synergy is just a random set of confusion with no them idk how else to say it

Cool looking cards, its actually affordable, but rate of return is...

Some are so dumb they're hilarious

Is UD skirting around the “official” card of the player (RC) by placing them as an insert of parallel variation, ie. short printed rc?

Cossa has been a prospect since he was drafted. Detroit, historically has had more goaltending injuries in recent years than they did this year…was UD betting by the time the product came out, these players would have been in a game or backup role? (Yes?)

Prospect planning for a project year’s release is a crapshoot at best. Many misses, many hits, a few genius finds in the mix.

This seems to be a mistake by UD... Cossa isn't on the checklist at all...

I believe it’s only light up the night sadly not cranked up. But I haven’t seen anything else yet.

I was able to score a "base" Stankoven "rookie ", that one is definitely out there, just hadnt seen a cranked up and thought maybe by now one would have surfaced. Hoping UD makes some kind of announcement on all this.

I was trying to consolidate of list of these 'shouldnt have been in Synergy' cards

Cossa - Red Base, Cranked Up and parallels, Light Up the Night and parallels

Stankoven - Red Base, Light Up the Night and parallels

Bourque - Red Base, Cranked Up and parallels, Light Up the Night and parallels

Gunler - Cranked Up and parallels, Light Up the Night and parallels

Has anyone seen any other players or cards like this from Synergy? Curious if these cards will make it to ePack when it gets released there or UD will take those out of circulation for ePack.
