We are fortunate in the Calgary area to have 2 promoters for card shows. Maple Leaf Sports does a Spring & a Fall show, and Overtime Sports Cards & Grading does a monthly show for 9 months out of the year, taking July, August, & December off. Both shows have 80+ tables. I went to the show last Saturday, a welcome return to browsing tables after a 2 month vacation.
Met up with my good friend Sal (djsatu on HI & @403ilcaposportscards on IG) and we started making our way to the tables. Very early on we came to a table set up by an older local collector that has been collecting for decades. As I was inquiring about an ITG UM6 Sittler/McDonald Double Autograph/Double Memorabilia card Sal noticed an Iginla card in the showcase. When he pointed it out to me I couldn't believe my eyes! It was a 2005/06 Hardware Heroes #1/1 from The Cup! I knew about the existence of these (Iggy has three 1/1 cards in the set), and had dreamed about adding one to the collection for many years. I figured that these would all be locked up in pc's for a very long time.
I wasn't about to leave the show without this card, and so it came home with me. It looks really sharp in a black border one touch.
Huge shoutout to Sal for the assist.
