Well I head back to Colgate on Saturday so I figured I'd scan the huge pile of mail on my desk so I can put it away before I leave. I'm going back so early because I got invited to pre-season football camp. Pretty excited about that as I am a walk-on and this is the first year they've invited me to camp. I will be one of two kickers there and actually have a chance to play so we'll see what happens. I've been a huge Colgate football fan my entire life (my dad played there in the 70's) so its awesome to be on the team you grew up rooting for.

I'll start off slowly with a non-hockey addition to my PC. I wanted a card of Willie Mays and I'm a big Mets fan, so it was pretty much a no-brainer to buy this card for $4...

A nice Drury auto (love this set) and an auto of one of the new Rangers...

A couple for the Baranka collection...

The Ice RC is my 2nd and was a gift from ovechkin05. Thanks again John! The BAP RC brings me to 8/10 (80.00%) on my Baranka collection.

A Blair Betts 06-07 OPC Rainbow /100. This is my 3rd one of these and I am always looking for more (and any serial #'d or auto'd card of Betts)...

A mess of 07-08 Debut Threads Patches is up next. The Hlinka is a gift from jdg517 (or jdg573 depending on which site you are viewing). John is miles ahead of me in Debut Patch collecting and offered to send this one to me free of charge. Hopefully he won't finish the 08-09 Debut Patch set before I finish the 05-06 one, lol. Thanks again John. These ones bring me to 12/42 (28.57%) for this years set.

Now an unfortunate card that I received in the mail...
UmbergerDebutPatch2.jpg

This one may not be with me for long. As you can see, it has a significant amount of damage running down the middle from a seller who shipped it in a folded team bag and a 'card saver', no penny sleeve, no thick top loader. Hopefully paypal will side with me and I'll get my money back, but for now the card is mine. More from this set shortly...

#1 Stars!!!!!!

Fresh from Japan. These were mailed from r-b21 (the site I made a post about a few weeks ago asking if anyone understood Japanese) on Saturday and arrived on Tuesday. That is pretty remarkable shipping time from Japan if you ask me. I never did learn Japanese, but I was able to get in touch with the site by email and told them the cards I wanted to buy. They took care of the rest and now here they are...

Part of the skate from the Penguins logo! These 2 bring me to 51/54 (94.44%) with only the Vanek, Phaneuf, and Bourque left to go.

Comments are always appreciated. Thanks for the look if you managed to make it through all that.

(Also, these were scanned using my new scanner so I don't know how they will turn out on your screen)

Sure thing. I think I made the post on another hobby website. Here is the site in question... http://www.r-b21.com/single/shop_index.jsp?genre=nhl&page=1

You search where it says keyword along the right side. Don't bother going through the checkout process unless you can read Japanese. When you find what you want you send an email to [email protected]. In that email you include the item # of the cards you want, the name of the cards you want, the price in yen, your email address, and your shipping address. It takes a few days for them to get back to you but they will confirm the price in dollars (divide the yen by 100 for a rough idea) and you can pay in paypal. Shipping was a bit steep ($20), but it got here in 3 days from Japan so I'm not complaining at all.

Kicker? Really? I remember watching ESPN's NFL Countdown one Sunday morning maybe 5 years ago, and one quote stuck with me:

"Kickers have the easiest job in the world... until Sunday"
... or in your case... Saturday.

The piece went on to show some NFL kicker kicking 5 balls and calling it a day... playing golf 3-4 times a week...

... I know how tough it is to make one from 40 yards... been there done that...

nyrtfleury014: what are the prices like on that japanese site? I did a rough conversion to USD and a card that sells for like $5-8 on eBay was selling there for $20

Yeah, some of the prices aren't that great. But the two I picked up were really good prices for 05-06 Debut Patches. You shouldn't look there for deals, mainly it is just a new place to look for hard to find cards.

Haha, the life of a kicker isn't all that easy, although it is easier compared to the other players. We still have to do all the conditioning/running, and its worse for a kicker in the winter time. Standing around with nothing to do for 2 hours in 20 degree weather with 20 mph winds and snow and then having the coach expect you to be loose enough to kick some balls is not as nice as it sounds, and it doesn't sound nice.
