Looking for the 2012-13 ITG ‘History of Hockey’ slabbed buybacks

Just got the last of my needs. Thread closed. The Rookie card buybacks were graded and slabbed by Beckett. The In The Game memorabilia card buybacks were slabbed by In The Game, themselves. There were 4000 cards for each. I don’t have a specific player in mind , so please let me know...

Looking for PSA/DNA of Patrick Roy, Phil Esposito, Kurri, Tomas Sandstrom, Yzerman, Sakic , Coffey

Just got the last of my needs. Thread closed. Just looking to buy one player from one of the years listed beneath them. All are their base card, unless specified. They came in sealed, hard cases from PSA/DNA: Patrick Roy 90 Pro Set 91 UD 92 Topps 92 Bowman 92 Parkhurst 93 Score Dream...

Questions about the All Star Game roster selections...

I know the league has changed roster selection processes over the years, but I'm trying to set it straight for the 80s and 90s. My understanding is that there was a starting line-up of players (one for each position, for each team) for EVERY All Star Game. So my first question is, was it...

1990 Coca-Cola Gretzky Athlete of the Decade Sports bottle question

We don't see many posts unrelated to cards in this 'Hobby Talk' area of the forum, but there really is no other area on this site that deals with collectible merchandise that is not hockey cards. But since I've seen threads on McFarlane figures, Tim Horton's mini-sticks, etc, I figure this is...

What do the 1995 NHL Cool Trade SKYBOX EMOTION redemption cards look like, AND what were specifics about promotion???

Regarding the 1995-96 NHL Cool Trade cards, there was the 20-card ‘regular-issue’ set that was mailed back to you if you sent in 20 hockey pack wrappers. This was according to the Beckett online card guide summary of the set...but I realized later that was false; it was actually 26 hockey pack...

Anyone have 95-96 NHL Cool Trade REDEMPTION cards?

UPDATE: no need for these anymore. Basically, these are the parallel cards of the 20-card set. The 20-card set was received as a whole set if you sent in 20 pack wrappers. I don’t need these cards. The REDEMPTION cards were only available through random ‘redemption winner’ cards that were...

Anyone have a Gretzky 'Pro Stars' CEREAL box?

UPDATE: no need for this anymore. These were from the 80s and 90s. I don't want it with the cereal...just the flat box (or still-intact, empty box). Below are just 3 examples of some of the variations (there are many more designs). I just want one for my collection. Thanks!

Looking for single packs from 1989-1991

UPDATE: no need for these anymore. I'm looking for 1 pack from each of the following: 1989: OPC/Topps 1990: Upper Deck, Score, Pro Set Series I, Pro Set Series II, OPC/Topps, Bowman 1991: Pro Set Platinum Series 1, Pro Set Series I and II (English), Upper Deck 1992: Parkhurst Series 2, OPC...

Charity Thrift Shop in Elmira, ON to hold vintage hockey card auction on March 16

I thought this would be of interest to a few folks. It's an auction on 60's and 70's cards that include rookies of Orr, Esposito, Sittler, Clarke, etc. that is tax-free with no buyer's premium. The cards were donated to the Mennonite Central Committee Thrift & Gift shop by a long-time...

Help figuring out what constitutes a rookie (and what version is best to keep) from 1990-1992 sets

I have a few 1990-91 sets and a few 1991-92 sets and of course there are a bunch of rookies. My questions are: 1. It seems like Beckett and other checklists put the ‘RC’ label on any card of a player if it’s their first appearance on an officially licenced card. It doesn’t matter if it’s a...

Can protective film that has lifted in a corner be re-applied somehow?

I have a card with a protective film/cover on it. I haven't removed it, but a bit of the film in the corner of the card has lifted off. Very annoying to look at. I may just end up pulling off the entire film...yet I'm curious: is there some ingenious way to flatten that corner piece out...

Need singles from early 1990's hockey sets (Score, ProSet, OPC, etc)

UPDATE: no need for these anymore. ACQUIRED EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE ONES WITH * (basically, those at the bottom of the list) Not looking to spend much on these, respectfully, (except for the Visionary cards) as even the complete sets are dirt cheap. But if anyone can help me out with any...

Where were 1990-91 Bowman/Topps TIFFANY sets distributed?

All I know is that the Tiffany cards were only sold as factory sets and limited to 3000 sets per series (Bowman and Topps). Can't find any answers searching the internet. Were they ACTUAL exclusive to a store or through mail-order? There are a bunch being sold on Ebay all the time. I've...

When did the fall and and rise of hockey cards start?

This topic came to me when reading another thread regarding the 'Card Sharks' book (discussing Upper Deck and their practices when they first started, and into the 90's). Regarding strictly hockey cards (though I'm sure it applies to other sports cards as well) it's been well acknowledged that...

Any good films/documentaries about sportscard collecting/card producing?

There's another thread that was recently started by 'Triple B' that triggered me to start this one. Triple B's thread was on the 'Card Sharks' book, and him stating that it was a great read. It's about Upper Deck and their history in the sportscard market, and what they went through to...

THN article using more precise/accurate/realistic comparisons between Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, McDavid on who's better

These types of arguments or comparisons are not new between these three or four players, especially in the last decade. But I've always been surprised how even the "hockey experts / researchers / historians" that wrote these hundreds of articles fell trap to coming to their conclusions using...

Regarding ITG and Leaf, why do they only SOMETIMES put the player name on the 'stock' jersey??

It's already bad enough the select player's actual photo can't be shown on products from these companies, but what's the deal with the name? Why jump back and forth between putting a name on the jersey, and not? Some years/some sets, the company puts the name on the jersey, and some years/some...

Are 'Artist's Proof' cards generally parallel cards? What's the logic them specifically being called 'Artist Proof'?

These cards have been popular since the 90's, but I'm trying to understand EXACTLY what a company means by issuing an 'Artist's Proof' card. As well address the confusion to the terminology. From what I can tell, usually, an 'AP' is an exact copy of a regular photograph 'base ' card....but...

Need Gretzkys: 1999 UD Gretzky Visionary inserts; 1996 or 1997 You Crash The Game Gretzky PRIZE card

Need Gretzkys: 1999 UD Gretzky Visionary insert; 1993 #5 Team Pinnacle Gretzky/Lemieux I'm looking for these Gretzky cards. SINGLES: 1993-94 Pinnacle (Canadian edition) 'Team Pinnacle' insert #5 (that has Gretzky on the one side, and Mario Lemieux on the other side - both wearing their...

Upper Deck Authenticated cards VS Upper Deck cards

UDA puts out cards but I'm wondering if collectors here generally treat UDA cards more like 'collectible show pieces', rather than a card that a PC collector feels should be part of their 'completist' collection' Is there a great majority consensus amongst collectors, that treat these...
