I enjoyed the first one but I have to say that the 2nd one is even better. Great reminder of what collecting is all about. Plus I discovered some cards that I’ll be picking up just because of the stories in the book.
I was thinking about starting a new collection with first auto (I think it is the 91/92 UD Hull Heroes), first acetate set, first GU set, serial #, etc. Has anyone done anything like this? Do you have any other suggestions of “firsts” for me?
Have any sellers done this? How difficult is it? Thinking about submitting my first lot but wondering what will happen if some items don't sell. Do sellers just continue to pay the monthly fee?
Had a bunch of vintage sets stored in white boxes and some in the clear set boxes. I've been upgrading commons to try and put the nicest set together. Well I've been doing a year or two here and there and tonight I got the 85/86 Topps set in 9 pocket sheets. Nice to see all the cards laid out...
Here is the email chain between me and a local seller on Craigslist regarding a vintage set:
Me: I'm interested in the set you have on Craigslist. How much were you asking?
Seller: $850
Me: Sent link to ebay sales ranging from 200-400 depending on condition. I tell him I would be more in that...
For those that attended the Expo, could you please post some comments about what was selling well? Or what wasn't? Besides the obvious McDavid, Larkin, etc. what was moving? Anything going for particularly high or low prices? Any sales that you were surprised by? What were buyers looking for...
Down to 1 card in each of these sets. Please let me know if you have any of these and maybe we can work a deal out. Thanks!

I want to say I saw a link or a thread here awhile back about a vintage hockey book. It was not "Hockey Card Stories". Seemed like it was more of an informational book about vintage sets. I vaguely remember going to the link and it looked like it was a guy selling it on his website for around...
Do any of you have any local collecting clubs that you belong to? I'd like to start one in my area but I'd like to get a few ideas from people who are involved in one. I'd like to have a few perks to the club like free admission to the monthly show, or maybe free tables where members could sell...
I picked up 2 items at an auction that I'm not sure what they are. They came in a lot with some other stuff that I needed.
1. "I was there" certificate from Ottawa Civic Centre for the first WHA league game between Ottawa Nationals and the Alberta Oilers
2. Matchbook from Diamond Match Co...
It's at a Holiday Inn and run by Mumbling Muse. Seems like they have a few nice vintage items (Laval Dairy set, 63/64 Topps set, 79/80 Topps and OPC set). Starting prices are OK, but they hit you with 12% tax and 10% buyer's premium. Ouch. I stumbled across this on another website. Anyone know...
I have a lot of these I was looking to sell. I was browsing ebay to see what they were selling for and I was shocked at how high the prices were. A lot of 14 sold for $250. And a Pat Lafontaine sold for $20. Am I the only one that wasn't aware of the selling prices of these? I know they were one...
The reason I ask is I am in a position to purchase a Gretzky OPC RC PSA 8 but it is OC. Seems like PSA 8 is going for $1800 on ebay while the OC is going for about half that. The price he is asking is in the ballpark but I'm more wondering what the desirability is for you guys. Would you prefer...
How do you guys display your sets that are mostly commons with maybe a couple higher dollar cards (ie 84-85 Topps)? I store most of my sets in the white boxes just to have them all in the same place but I'm always concerned about not protecting the $$ cards. I thought a great invention would be...
I'm looking at picking up a couple vintage singles I need to kill some sets. I've picked up a couple cards on COMC but nothing vintage before. One thing I noticed...some of the descriptions say "Good to VG-EX". Is that something that COMC adds or the seller? Anything to be wary of?
