The wife gave me a hand and this is what resulted.

Hard to tell in some of the pics, but the system is pretty simple. 2 pieces of wood in either end of my basement, 2 plastic encased steel wires tightly strung end to end made to hold the sticks.

Here are some pics (my excuses for the mostly bad shots :()

A little further away, to give some perspective.

I like it for a few reasons. Easy to pull down the sticks when somebody feels like seeing one up close. Lefties and righties can be added, and configuration can be changed weekly if I want. Can extend my collection easily enough, adding sticks is just throwing one up there. Malkin is showing up next week, gonna take me a minute to display.

Comments welcome of course! :D

good idea, hopefully the paints on the stick don't eat into the plastic wrapping the steel cables.

Very cool. I tried a few ways before I just gave up and started drilling into the shafts to screw them into the wall!

^_^

Your way is much "greener!"

Actually, the sticks just stay where you put them. It's orderly chaos ;) Because the 2 cables are at the same height, the sicks don't move... maybe it wouldn't work in California, but works just fine for Quebec.

Pardon the stupid question, but why would the paint eat through the plastic? Related question, would that be worse for the cables or the sticks?

worse for the sticks.

sometimes paints chip off after they've sit on soft plastic for a while.. maybe at a hotter place like california it'd happen, but not in a cooler place like quebec.
