many of those cards had patch pieces in them...and I've seen enough to know that it's a real patch.

Sorry Geoff, but it has been faked. I have seen pretty much every Mikita listed on EBAY since the product came out and none of them had patch pieces. Not to mention, you can tell the piece was pulled out and replaced, look at the right side of the window, it is literally torn in places.
 
If you've seen that many of these cards. then I'm sure you'll know what I mean when I say that any of the memorabilia cards in this set have a funny circular inprint on the memorabilia swatch, And I can clearly see that in the scan of the Mikita it does as well.....which means it would've had to be produced with a patch swatch in it.

I've owned a number of bobby Clarke and Pete Mahovlich cards with patch pieces in them, and patch or not it's not that uncommon to see one with a slightly distorted memorabilia window.

*EDIT* I might also add. many years ago I disected one those these very cards(different player) for the purpose of making a custom and let me tell you....the memorabilia swatch is melted INTO the plastic that incases it making it impossible to fake.

I don't mean to Argue....but in this case...I know what I'm talking about.


I'm confident enough that it's real, I may bid on this item.

I have seen quite a few other players in the set with patch pieces, but never a Mikita. Maybe it is real, and if so it is an extremely rare one as honestly, I have probably seen hundreds of this same Mikita card and they all had jersey swatches. If it is real it is a nice one, but the damage on the right side of the window surely points towards someone repatching it as I have never seen one of these so hammered in the window. If you buy it let me know what it looks like when you receive it. Thanks

I have no idea if it is real or fake (nor do I care), but, do you really think this seller is "toolshed faker"? 7500+ total feedback, and over 1400 in the past year with only one neg. The card may be fake, but i don't think this seller is the one doing it. I may be wrong, but I see absolutley ZERO evidense to prove he did this.

As is the case with many of these sellers online. I would say that over 90% of them are not aware that the card(s) they are selling might be forged. Many of these dealers set up at shows or acquire card(s) from their retail businesses. NOT everyone has access to the internet or online forums. For a matter of fact, I know several local "high-end" collectors that have absolutely insane collection(s) and have never used the internet to make a purchase.

I'm going to go on a limb and say that the Mikita could very possibly be real. In this instance there is no auto or serial number to track the card to something, in order to compare. But like Geoff mentioned earlier, Topps did some whacky things back in the day. But personally, I wouldn't touch that card with a 10 ft pole---FUGLY!
