hey everyone, there is a Lemieux LL from 08 that i'm thinking of making an offer on:

and just with all of the fake patching thats been going on, i would like to make sure it's legit, so if anyone has any info on the pictured card like if you know who pulled it, or if you have seen other Lemieux's with pieces from that same patch... etc.
anything would be of great help. thank you.

Pretty sure I've seen other Marios with that same patch. Think it's from either the 91 or 92 final. Don't recall if it was a LL or a different set. I actually thought it could have been Prime but my memory is bad. Hope it's real, beautiful card.

i finished that set and i have never seen a lemieux like that. Not saying it is not real but i would think one that great would have been sold a few times somewhere along the way.

i would be suspect.

i agree thats why i'm asking the question. like i said, i watch the lemieux's that year and never saw one... but this card is worth looking into.

I'm thinking it's a fake patch. Here are 91 and 92 finals patches;

Things i'm noticing are;

What's with the little white spot on the grey area above the Y in Cup. Neither legit patch has that

91 patch has the white area embroidered 92 patch is not embroidered which means the card patch should be a 92 BUT

IP in championship doesn't match either legit patch

I'd pass

Hmmm Interesting...
Comparing those two crests to the patch card, a few things kept popping out to me:

1) The patch card has what looks like a white "y" printed on the bottom right of the cup.
2) The grey stitching and color on the piece of the cup, looks different to the two jersey samples.
3) the word "ship" on the patch card also looks completely different than the two reference samples

Unless I see another piece of this card, I am going to agree this is quite possibly a fake.

Do the back of those cards say they are game used?

I had a similar issue with an ITG card I was interested in. I assumed it was game used, but knew the patch didn't look right. Come to find out, the backs of these cards don't say they are game used, just that "it is a piece of a patch".

Those are "manufactured" patches, as those were the "base" card from Ultimate. They were never said to have been game-used/worn.

actually wait a sec boys... whats the difference between these two....

The embroidery on championship is different. On the eBay patch you can see the black line that connects the S and I. That matches the patch on the card. The national emblem patch doesn't have that.

Either way both patches are not what was on lemieuxs game worn jersey.

There were some really bonkers patches in that release... I have this Elias which is 100% legit:

I think the authenticity of the Lemieux patch is questionable, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that they did cut up a Finals patch for that release.

A quick Google image search showed a handful of copies of the same card, all having Penguins patches...

as of right now there is another card from a different manufacture that has the same patch and i'm the only one who has posted an official NHL pic of the 91' stanley cup championship patch, so unless someone can give proof that it is in fact a fake patch i say it's real.

All of the versions of this card that I'm seeing online have vegas gold swatches. It just doesn't make sense that they would use those as well as a game-worn Stanley Cup Finals patch. Especially on cards numbered to 50.

That same patch in the ITG card is a manufactured, not game worn, patch. Also, the Stanley Cup patch that you posted is also a manufactured patch issued almost 20 years after the Stanley Cup years in question.

Dude, how much more proof do you need. Your 91 "official" patch is not what was worn on the jerseys back in 91. It is an official remake patch. The pics I posted are of the real 91 and 92 patches directly from gameworn.net auctions. The card is FAKE FAKE FAKE.
