Hi everyone,
This is just a general query. I've been using #00 bubble mailer envelopes forever to send out cards. The cost to ship within Canada is $1.29 plus tax.
However, in the last week or so, I've received some packages from fellow Canadians in #000 smaller bubble mailer envelopes with a $1.05 stamp.
The card(s) were still well-protected with decoy card, soft sleeve, top loader and team bag.
What I'm getting at is have any of you been taking advantage of the cheaper rate by using #000 bubble mailers? You'd save about 27 cents per package (tax included), so it might be worth switching to the #000 mailers.
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce,I do not believe it has anything to do with the size of the bubble mailer.Mail is mostly based on weight.Up too 100 grams(with in Canada) is $1.29 plus taxes.Neither the #000 or the #00 will fit through the mail slot With a card a decoy card and team bag.So they should both cost the same if they are under the 100 grams. Now some post offices will give the customer a break and say it passes through but if they come back and say insufficient postage than in my opinion you only have yourself to blame. I believe that is why a lot of people still use plain white envelopes.Because a card in a top loader and team bag will pass through the slot.Thanks,Winston.

I am still using the #00, but I am not using the ones you buy at Canada Post since the ones they have weigh 32 grams more compared to 12 grams for the "bubble wrap" envelopes. If you ship a slab card it makes a big difference on the price tag to ship it. A slabbed card comes in at about 98 grams packaged (under the 100 gm mark) and with the Canada Post Recycled material envelopes, at about 130 grams. I had a couple come back overweight, thus I started watching more closely.

Thanks guys. On another note, I buy my bubble envelopes in bulk from Uline.
On a box of 250 bubble mailers, you probably save about $30 compared to what you would pay in a store.
It's under uline.ca on the web.
I just got their free 542-page spring/summer catalogue in the mail yesterday.

officially, rules for canada post is :

under 5 mm thickness = 0.61$ (under 30gr ) or 1.05$ (under 50 gr)

5 mm to 20 mm thickness = 1.29$ under 100 gr

ahh this would explain why once in a while I get a tiny bubble mailer with just a regular stamp

I use the 000 for cards that weigh less than 30 grams (I simply purchased a small scale at Canadian Tire when they go on sale for $10) and I use the 00 when the weight is above 30 grams. Both will fit through the slot if it is a single 75 pt or 100 pt top loader and team bag.

and FITZ...I am nominating you for Rocket Scientist of the Year! LOL

you missed an R in there Webster :P

lol I just assumed all bubble envelopes required the extra postage. Great info, the savings would add up over a year!

Personally I like receiving cards in a 000 compared to a 00. Some of the worst damage I have had is when someone puts one card in a toploader in a huge 00 and it moves around just enough to get destroyed when mail carriers put them in the mail box.
