Conor Bedard is 18 year olds and the #1 Pick of the 2023 NHL Draft. Looking back, who was the #1 Draft Pick when YOU were 18 years old?

For me, I was 18 in 1993 and the top pick that year was "the next Mario Lemieux", Alexandre Daigle.

The year was 2000 for me….the man who signed one of the best/worst contracts depending on which side you are on.

Rick DiPietro

Chris Phillips.

This 1996 draft class has to be one of the weakest ever. Matt Cullen is the all-time points leader from the draft class. Maybe it was strong for goalies… nope. Garon and Esche were the best two. Pretty weak overall. Chara and Briere are the most notable.

1998 - Vinny Lecalvalier. Honorable mention goes to the 171st overall pick that same draft - Pavel Datsyuk.

I may be the oldest board member so let me just say the year I was born there was NO draft! Draft didn't start until I believe 13 years later.

I was born in 1950 Bought my first pack of cards in 1959. Packs were 5 cents a pack.

You might say, things have changed just a little bit since then.
