Hello everybody,

I recently received a bunch of these from my dad and now I am considering building the set. So a few questions:

What should I look for in terms of condition?

What is a fair price for commons?

What are the most expensive cards?

Are there any fakes out there?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks

Here is a list of all the cards in the set with near mint pricing on each. This was the last set Parkhurst created and as you can see, it has many Hall Of Famers in it. The Gordie Howe card is the key one in this set and there are many nice rookies too!

Hope this helps you .. Rob

Drop by the card show on the 28th.There are a lot of 63-64 Parkhurst there. A couple key cards are also the first and last card in the set.Not because of the player but because of being #1 and #99.I did not collect back then but my understanding is a lot of the kids would keep rubber bands around their cards and thus a lot of first and last cards received a lot of damage from the bands. How many are you missing for your set? I have a bunch myself.A lot graded and a lot raw. What condition are you looking for.If you drop by the show bring your cards with you. Then a person can see what condition you need to fit in with what you already have.A lot of players in that set have two cards.Good luck with your set.Hope to see you at the show,Winston.

Watch for fakes on the big cards (Howe). People generally don't waste time faking commons..you can put this set together at any quality your budget can handle...8 or better can get expensive fast..have fun..and make sure to come back and post your progress...it's a beautifully designed set

Expect to pay book or over if a Faulkner or Maniago #99 in NrMt or better condition go up for sale. Know of quite a few guys looking to upgrade both.

Some of the cards that were on the edge of the original uncut sheet such as the Keon are often miscut/off-centered so if you can get those cards perfectly centered you will often have to pay a premium.

Progress

So I have decided to go all in on this set. I also thought it might be fun to update my progress as I go. I do expect this to take a while to complete but I have a good start. Card 1 Stanley and 99 Maniago are in hand. At the Halifax show today I made some deals and had some great conversations about vintage and building the set. Without further ado, here is what I have now:

These are the cards my dad had kicking around, the inspiration to start the set.

So that's 19 to start. 80 more to go!

Any advice in how to store them? A shoe box was suggested. What have you guys done?

If you want to look at them every once and a while.I suggest putting them in top loaders and than in a team bag. Then buy some 4 pocket pages and slide the cards in the pockets and place them in a binder.I have a few of the smaller sets done this way.But if you are not interested in looking at them than a shoe box works fine.

Just a Heads up on another card...Alex Faulkner rc...expect to pay a lot more than the value listed, especially for a nice one....its his only card and being from Newfoundland its highly sought after by fellow Islanders as well as guys collecting players with only the one card.

Halifax Show Pick Ups

So here are the latest pick ups, including a couple from our own Winston (winniescards). That was the last show for the summer. See if I can find a few more before September!

This is the most fun set I've collected in ages.

Faulkner is tough to find and sells high and well in all conditions. Newfoundlanders love Faulkner and all older collectors want one in their collection.
