Opening this case would be fun but foolish. The rarity/collectible value of the case as is far outstrips anything in it.
This. Unless this ends up some rich guy's play toy, these should be kept as is. This might be the single greatest 1/1 in our hobby today.
After Jeremy buys the case (and swears to NEVER open it), he should track down the guy who bought the 1986/87 Fleer Basketball case last year and acquire that one as well.
Then put them side by side, on a shelf in his card room, just behind where he sits for his podcast-thingys... that would look AWESOME.
With the horror stories we’ve seen even from “authenticated” boxes/cases, who spends that much money without knowing for certain what’s inside those boxes? It could be Mash, or Starsky & Hutch, or…..
Apparently there should be 27 Gretzky Rookies inside a case. Why 27? Not sure.., if there are 16 boxes that's not even 1.5 Gretzkys per box so that is a weird number. Maybe there were for certain the same amount of Gretzky RC's in each 16 box case?
The case has already been opened at BBCE's offices, contents verified and authenticated, and then re-sealed with their shrink-wrapping.
It's the real deal.
Maybe we should crowdfund the purchase? Lol
14 cards per pack x 48 packs = 672 cards per box,
672 cards divided by 396 in the set = 1.7 sets per box,
1.7 sets per box x 16 boxes in the case = 27.15 Gretzky RCs
