I have a Kraft Drawings card from 86-87. In researching the set, most websites seem to have all the incorrect card numbers. On the back of the card it has the checklist and numbers. All the writeups I find online for this set say that it is an 81 card set. But the checklist on the back goes up to 88, with cards 82-88 being listed as team names. Were these team cards ever released?

I have never seen the team cards, but that doesn't mean that they weren't made. Most years Kraft offered cards they also offered a "mail in" set... perhaps yours is one of those and not a "eat the Mac and Cheese" version that is more common...

Rob,what you call the Eat the Mac & Cheese version being more common I believe may not be true.I have been trying to finish a set from the boxes for over 15 years and still not complete. Most complete sets are factory sets and
are perfectly cut. They are a much thinner stock and in fact are much less valuable. And much easier to find.I believe most people threw away the boxes with the cards still attached. And the collectors that wanted a complete set decided that they would like that very professional factory cut set. Thus the ones from the boxes are really hard to find.
I believe the checklist is just an alphabetical list of players on teams that are are also alphabetical. The cards do not have an actual card number on them.
I never took notice before of the team photo listed on the backs of the cards.I have never seen them before either.I have owned many complete factory sets and never have seen the team photos.I have even had a few complete sets of the posters. But no team photos there either.

Thanks for the info. I have one of the cards likely from the inserted set. Not a mail in (why would it have contest rules on it?) and not cut from the box. It wouldn't be the first time a checklist turned out being incorrect... would it? :D

Correct me if i'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the 86-87's the OP refers to weren't the KD back-of-box cards but the inserted Kraft Singles pieces.

now I haven't looked at the set in ages but i don't recall there ever being team cards. There were, however, blow-up posters and I'm pretty sure there was a special edition Gretz.

As for quality, in my own collection I have primarily thinner 'white backs' and one 'cardboard back' which is a thicker stock.

From what I understand, the cardboard stock were actually part of the boxes and had to be cut out.

They were not really part of the box.But were attached to the box. When you removed them they had a perforated edge on them. Here are a couple scans of a factory prepared card that people would send in and receive by mail.Plus a scan of one as it would have been removed from the inside of the box.Take note of the color difference on the writing

Great post Winston!

I maintain that these cards in general were among if not the most beautiful ever produced. The look is like nothing else I've seen. I wish Kraft was still doing card sets...
