Ok, in 1991-92 a small company "Future Trends " released a set of Team Canada cards. But in the packs you could also get autos of all the team
players plus there was also one of Vladislav Tretiak. These autos were very easy to spot since the company put on the surface a swirl.

But the Bay here in Canada decided it would like to make sets of these autos for their valuable customers.Except in this set there would be no Tretiak auto.
So I am wondering if anyone here has any information on this set to help distinguish the difference between the ones released in the set done by
the Bay and an auto that may have been received in person. I have been told that all of the Bay autos were signed in blue or gold ink.Any information would
be a big help. These ones released by the Bay had no swirl for sure.Thanks.

There were only 5 different gold autos produced. They were Orr, Hull, Vachon, Sittler, and Clarke. There may be many more produced, but to my knowledge it was just the five. It seems like this was always a product that collectors liked to use to get cards signed in person.

These autos that you are referring too are from the second release of Future Trends.
Bobby Orr did not play in the first series. So no auto of him in the 72 Team Canada set.
So in the first series there are 36 different autos.I also believe there are 36 autos in
the Bay set as well. They dropped Tretiak and added John Ferguson.Thanks.

As far as I know, the 1991-92 Future Trends 72 Team Canada set contained the only officially licensed Ken Dryden autograph card.

That is true. But he also signed for the Bay sets.So unless it has the swirl then it did not come from a pack. I cannot tell in your picture if the card has the swirl. But still a very nice card. Thanks for sharing.

It does have the swirl. The swirl is on the whole surface (not just on the autograph). If you zoom in, you can really see it on the "yd" part of his signature or at the bottom of the card near the middle over the gold line.

Every Dryden autograph I've seen from the set had the swirl so I wasn't sure he signed for the non-swirl Bay set.

You are lucky to have such a short printed card of Dryden. Yes he did sign for the Bay set.
It is not like his autos are scarce.Because they are not. He signed at every book signing.
He was even at our local golf course at one time and a good friend of mine was able to
get a few autos of Dryden. But that pack pulled one is very scarce. And I would guess
that his auto on the French version is even a lot more scarce. Great card for sure. If you
ever decide to sell I am sure there would be people lined up to buy it. Thanks.

While he does do autograph signings (more in his role as a politician rather than a famous hockey player), he won't give out unpersonalized autographs. He always includes the autograph seeker's name to try and prevent people from profiting off his autograph by just selling it. From what I've heard, he also doesn't sign hockey cards due to his "complicated" relationship with the card companies. That's why most of the autographed hockey cards available are cut autos where they've cut around the personalization.

I did here that about him.But the ones my friend got were two on hockey cards(1979-80 OPC) and one on an index card which he gave to me.
I also had one of his early Montreal Team post cards that he had signed. All of them were not personalized.I did have them authenticated as well
so I am pretty sure they were his autos. The ones my friend had were done right in my friend presents so I feel great about those as well.TTYL
