After my 1993-94 Score Series 1 break proved to be an unexpected hit, I've decided to push my luck even further and share my results of a Series 2 box.

First, some summary numbers. Boxes contain 36 packs with 12 cards each, for a total of 432 cards. Despite series 2 only containing 166 cards, I'm still missing 2 after the break and was left with 231 duplicates. That was a little disappointing. Of the 36 gold parallels, there were 3 duplicates there as well.

Series 2 is basically a rookie/traded set rather than splitting the league up to include half in each series. The first thing you'll notice is that these cards actually look nothing like Series 1 at all. It looks like an entirely new set despite the fact that it continues Series 1's numbering. The border is a blue/white ice effect, that impressively seems different on every single card. The stock is also different. Series 2 cards seem to have more of the UV coating that dominated the mid-to-late 90s. The cards in my box had some slight bricking, but they came apart easily and there was no damage. Be careful, as other Series 2 boxes may not be so fortunate.

Series 1 only contained a few cards of Ducks & Panthers players, and they were all posed shots. Series 2 now has players from these teams in full action, so much of the Series 2 checklist is players from the expansion teams. The Panthers are represented on 19 cards and the Ducks on 15. That makes over 20% of Series 2 expansion players.

This set included a number of veteran players on new teams during the 1993-94 season, such as the players below. Most of these veteran players had a card in Series 1 picturing them on their 1992-93 team.

There were some solid rookies in this set. Pronger is a Hall of Famer and while some of these other players didn't live up to expectations, many others had solid careers or drew some headlines for a while.

Here's the rest of the rookies. Brodeur isn't listed as a rookie, but they also included some players who debuted late. My apologies for not catching that two of these were horizontal photos while scanning. The last card in the set is a Gretzky highlight of him breaking the goal record.

Once again, I want to highlight the card backs. This time I'll use Bryan Trottier. As I noted for Series 1, they were able to get a player's entire career on the back, even a player who has played 17 seasons, along with a brief bio, text and picture.

There are 2 chase sets and 1 chase card. The first chase set is a gold parallel of the 166 card base set. There is 1 per pack. I didn't pull much to write home about.

The other insert set is a 10 card Dynamic Duos set that can be found 1 per box. U.S. boxes contain a United States set and there is a Canada set for Canadian boxes. The other is an Eric Lindros All Star card, that is slightly harder to pull at 1 in 360 packs (or 10 boxes). I pulled this Dynamic Duos.

One quirk. While I mentioned that all of the card backgrounds were different, I discovered a duplicate card where the backgrounds are actually different. The first Steve Duchesne card I pulled had a white lower left corner (my apologies that it is cut off in the scan). It looked like corner damage at first, so when I compared it to the second and third Duchesne cards I pulled, the first background was completely different. This is the only time I observed this.

Now that is an in depth analysis. Such a cool looking set, love that these are getting some love. Those gold sets look like they would be a fun time to build.

I do have one question after reading that trottier. How many players in the nhl have taken a year off to work as an “front office person” to then come back and play again?

This takes me back! I wasn't as big a fan of Series 2 as I was of Series 1.
I would love to know why the design was so different. Was this supposed to be part of a different set?
Thanks for sharing!
