1997-98 Donruss Preferred Color Guard Error? Need some help

I need some experts help. My buddy and I opened a few cases of the 97-98 Donruss Preferred years back and he pulled a Patrick Roy Color Guard that has no numbering where the /1500 usually is. I know there were promos back then and they say PROMO / 1500.

If this was a simple error you would think there would be more like this but after 7 or 8 years we have been unable to track down any others like it.




Anyone have any info on this?

All I can speculate is that it's either a Promo or a card that got missed in the printing machine when they were handing out numbers.

Ive never seen one like this. They are always either properly numbered or promos. I have seen tons of these over the years. I would say this one is simply a mistake that missed the foil stamping serial numbering machine.

I personally saw him pull this from case breaks we were doing.
I'm sure it's nothing that makes it insanely valuable but it's certainly a rarity.

I have a Roy that I picked up a few years ago that has no serial # or PROMO stamped as well. Would love to know if this was just an error. Have never seen a different player, this is the 3rd Roy I have seen like this.
