Is it just me, or do the 2004 SP Authentic designs leave a lot to be desired?
Base Design
Not too bad, no major problems.
Rookie Autographed Patches
Well, when SPA released, the season was 14 weeks in. Why are the photos on these cards being used from the rookie photo shoot? The design is lame, no cropping to make the background look decent, and the flow is pathetic. The whole card has a lame design, and the text of the player's name carries over into the picture.
Scripts for Success Autographs
Not all of the players in this set are rookies, but a college jersey? Boring design with boring text. The only good thing is that the autograph is actually on the card itself.
Base Rookie Autographs
Still plenty of college jerseys, as well as practice jerseys. Why aren't there any actual game photos? If the player has not even been on the sidelines, warming up during a game for a photo opportunity, should they even be in the set to begin with?
Sign of the Times
An incredibly boring design. No cropping, just a tiny head shot of the player, with tons of unused space, and just a lackluster overall look.
If I seem critical, it's only because UD didn't take the time to make one of the most highly anticipated products of the year worthwhile. Laziness shouldn't be an option.
