Looking forward to watching this game and watch some of these younsters perform. Crosby will certainly be the centre of attention but there are many other great players this year. Surprised that Bass made the team, as hes more of a defensive player and has put up weak numbers.
Should be a great game!

Wait...where are all the Knights?! Come on, I think Schremp and Perry should atleast be on the team, if not more.

Wes

I am pretty sure the prospects game is for those who haven't been drafted yet. Although I have been wrong before and could be again but I think thats why guys like Perry and Schremp are not on the team

hehe
As others have noted its for draft eligible players. I think the Knights have a record 11 drafted players on there roster. So next year, when their team will get younger Im sure they will produce a prospect or two will be in the game...or maybe not. :p

Ahh, ok guys, thanks for clearing that up. I thought there were some other big name players missing so I was a little confused. What about Danny Sveret...he deffinatly deserves a spot there.

Ahh well, lol.

Wes

There's usually a stigma about CHL players who have gone through drafts unselected. Although Syvret has had an excellent season, he probably will not get drafted, let alone in the top 3 rounds that most of the players in this game will be.

Syvret can't be drafted now, he's too old. He's a free agent and can sign anywhere. The Top Prospects game is for guys in their first year of draft eligibility. I think they figure that if a guy has gone through the draft and not been picked, he really isn't a "Top Prospect."

Depends - AHL rosters are pretty full with guys the NHL sent down. No NHL team is going to sign a guy during the lockout, so he might be caught in a crunch. Is he an over-ager? probably not, so he could technically go back to London for another year. Or Europe, or maybe the WHA . . . ?

He'll be picked up sooner or later. Team Cherry should walk away with this game, Sydney's not gonna be suiting up for it.

Crosby to miss CHL Prospects Game

RIMOUSKI, Que. (CP) - Junior hockey star Sidney Crosby will skip Wednesday's Top Prospects game in Vancouver because of a back injury.

Crosby's club team, the Rimouski Oceanic, made the announcement on its website Monday.

Crosby suffered the injury during the world junior hockey championship, which ended with Canada winning the gold medal on Jan. 4.

NHL Central Scouting has ranked Crosby the No. 1 prospect for the 2005 NHL draft if it isn't cancelled due to the current lockout.

The Prospects Game showcases players who are eligible for the NHL draft and Crosby was to be the showpiece of the game. His on-ice meeting with Western Hockey League star Gilbert Brule added to the interest.

Crosby played in the four of five Oceanic games after the world junior championship ended, recording six goals and nine assists.

The 17-year-old sat out Friday's game in Charlottetown before scoring two goals and adding four assists in front of a sellout crowd in his hometown of Halifax on Saturday. He had a goal and an assist Sunday in Moncton.

Crosby was unable to play for the Quebec Junior Hockey League team in the Canada-Russia Challenge Series in November due to an ankle injury and he also missed four Rimouski games in October with a knee injury.

Crosby had six goals and three assists in six games for Canada at the world junior championship. His red team jersey that he wore in the gold-medal game went missing from his hockey bag en route to Rimouski after the tournament. The shirt was later recovered. A former Air Canada employee is facing charges.

As sprague11 noted Crosby wont be playing the game unfortunately, and won't even travel to speak with the media. I was looking forward to seeing how he well/poor he was going to do in the game. Game probably doesnt mean as much as there probably wont be a draft.

yeah, I don't think he had anything left to prove. His agents did sound kind of snarky when they commented about him not going on a public relations junket.

I know Crosby is better than Spezza. Even from the limited games that I've seen them live, there's a definite difference.

Still, Spezza and Bouwmeester were both run away choices for first overall in their year until the draft happened. All that you need a team that falls in love with Jack Johnson and needs a defenseman more than a forward and Crosby might end up slipping.
