Hey Guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone has heard if UD is planning to release The Cup for the shortened 2012-2013 season? I believe last year it came out sometime in September.

I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere, but I can't seem to find anything on it.

Thanks!
Nick

I hate to bet AGAINST them because they usually release it every year and the announcement and product all seem to come together VERY quickly.

This might be the ONE year where I think they don't because of the very weak rookie class which obviously drives the product. It's not like Prime where that is all about the memorabilia.

That said, I imagine they will come back guns blazing for the 13-14 edition!

They hinted at making an announcement later this month (likely very close to the end of the month). The specifics on why they have to wait, I'm not sure about. I think it was posted on either their Facebook or Twitter feed if you're wanting to search.

As much as we all enjoy high-end product, I think this is an instance were we can do without a release of The Cup. Having it drop well into the start of the next season is just flat out silly. However, our interests don't always align with those business interests of UD, so I'd be shocked if something isn't released in some way, shape, or form.

My guess is mid to late Oct.......UD will not skip over both of there two high end products in Ultimate and The Cup.

Didn't they announce earlier in the year that this would not be made this year? Back when both UD and Panini announced products they were pulling due to the lockout season.

I remember reading this somewhere as well. Can't remember where for the life of me, but as soon as he said it, it rung a bell. I guess we'll have to see what the "fine folks" at UD do/say over the next couple of weeks. I, for one, would be totally okay without seeing the marginal-at-best rookie class of 2012-13 (save for Jaden Schwartz) be glorified with Cup Auto Rookie Patches.

At the time I do remember that Ultimate was cancelled. No announce on Cup was ever made to my knowledge - and to this day UD has only put out two of the three 2012-13 releases they were permitted to issue post-lockout - Retro and SP Authentic

This all makes sense. They have another product to go with (Cup is the obvious choice) and like Marcel said with timing of release, they can hit some of the rookies up in the preseason to sign.

My question is CAN they use guys like Yakapov, etc if they do release it still? Or do those guys have to be heldover for the 2013-14 products?

Maybe they are waiting and trying to circumvent the system to get these big names guys in?

No they can't since it's a 12-13 release. This is one article that basically sums it up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. They will announce a Series 1 and 2 Cup for 2013-14. This way they can have the RCs like Galchenyuk, Yakupov in this early release and the rest next summer. If they release it as a 2012-13 product, it will be a major flop

Frank that is the one reason I think they wouldn't do it unless they found a way around as I mentioned but apparently it is not possible to get these dudes in.

Cup next year will be a filibuster of a product! :whatthehell:

They didn't announce a cancellation of either The Cup or Ultimate. In fact, they hinted that Ultimate would be incorporated into a later release (ie The Cup).

On their Facebook page, UD say they will have an announcement "very soon" (posted 9/10).

Maybe they will copy Panini's idea of placing Dominion into Prime. They can put Ultimate in with The Cup or visa-versa.
