Weird - the Capitals and the Blackhawks in the Winter Classic - glad to see the NHL is being original with their choices and not rehashing the same teams over and over and over again...oh wait.

I get why you would have it in Washington, that is fine - but why not bring in a team like Tampa Bay who is (in all likelihood) never going to be able to host one of these games, is at least in the same conference and is a exciting team to watch that likely much of the country misses out on.

Better yet - why not have a Minnesota vs St Louis game - two teams who have never participated in the Winter Classic, are both building very strong teams, have rabid fan bases in traditional hockey climates? No, clearly that won't make sense.

Oh well - next year it will be some combination of Pittsburgh, Philly, or Detroit - way to spread it around NHL.

Around here the word is that Colorado turned down a minor outdoor game this year because they think they'll get the Winter Classic next year. Here's to hoping they bring it out West soon, the east coast bias is just boring.

I know the NHL focuses on showcasing big stars in the big markets with the Winter Classic, but it's just becoming unoriginal at this point. At some point the event loses all novelty and becomes no different than a regulars season game played at United Center or Verizon Center. At least that's how I'm becoming to view it.

I agree that it would be more interesting to put it somewhere new like STL, MIN, or COL. Last year's game in LA was a bit of joke, but it was at least interesting to watch. Having the same east coast major markets get it year after year is becoming a bore.

Serious question, why was that game a joke? I thought the stuff outside the game (kiss..etc) was dumb, but the actual game itself..a joke? It was an outdoor game in a warm weather climate in one of the most iconic venues in the world between two top teams with plenty of stars playing in the game. I would hardly call it a joke especially when the nhl keeps playing the same teams in these outdoor games.

I would personally like to see this be an every 5 years or so kind of thing. It's just overkill now. I've gone from thoroughly enjoying the first one to not even watching the recent ones.

I was referring to the stuff outside of the game - KISS, beach volleyball games, etc. Not the actual game itself - I have plenty of respect for both of those teams and it was an excellent game.

Oh ok I thought maybe something about the actual game. Even without being a kings fan I would have thought the setting was cool, but yea I agree a lot of the outside stuff was dumb haha. Playing too much into the so cal stuff but not really doing a great job. And kiss? Yikes haha

John Ondrasik - AKA Five for Fighting - was pretty good at the game, despite him being a Kings fan.

Would not mind seeing a game in CO. I lived there the first 7-8 years of my life...so a while back(born in '76). Don't know if excessive snow would be a issue but it would be cool to see.

You know Colorado...Monday 10AM 32 and snow....three hours later 75 and sun.

The game was great. The ice was better than in Yankee Stadium. Hopefully the 2016 Winter Classic will be held in the 3rd oldest ball park in the National League.

Agree with you 100% Cole. Someone posted an article that there was consideration of going to a two time zone system. Imagine how terrible it would be if the eastern time zone included Chicago...we would be doomed here :)
