The Cardboard Connection Website recently posted some details from this year's product. I like the look of the horizontal game used jersey cards. However, I am very disappointed to see that they are reducing the number of game used jerseys per box from two to one. As well, the odds of pulling a Team Logo Patch and a Grey Cup Champions insert decreased.

I am surprised Upper Deck CFL cards have survived to see a fourth season as it doesn't seem to be a widely opened product. I hope the poorer odds don't reduce the interest in this set among the small, but hardcore base of collectors.

Bringing the Canadian gridiron to cardboard for another season, 2017 Upper Deck CFL Football has an old-school feel with a simple format and throwback designs. Each hobby box delivers one relic card.

2017 Upper Deck CFL Football Base
Broken into a few groups, the base set consists of 160 cards. The 2017 Upper Deck CFL Football checklist starts with 100 offensive players and the remaining 60 cards are short prints, including Defense/Special Teams (1:3 packs) and All-Stars (1:6 packs).

2017 Upper Deck CFL Football Autographs / Relics
Although hits are not the main basis for the release, 2017 Upper Deck CFL Football does offer a few premium inserts. Taking the main set up a notch, each base subset also has limited Autograph parallels, with Offense (1:64 packs), Defense/Special Teams (1:240 packs) and All-Stars (1:480 packs) versions. Also rare are the CFL Script (#/25) autographed inserts.

Decreasing from 2016, which had two relics, collectors can now find one UD Game Jersey (1:17 packs) card per box. These also come as UD Game Patch parallels, numbered to 15 copies. Another regular inclusion, the commemorative O-Pee-Chee Team Logo Patch cards are a tough pull at 1:216 packs.

2017 Upper Deck CFL Football Inserts
A small assortment of inserts help close out 2017 Upper Deck CFL Football. The most common choice, O-Pee-Chee Retro (1:3 packs) highlights players with a vintage look. Moving to the furry creatures, one OPC Retro Mascots insert falls in each box.

Providing a chase aspect, short-printed 2016 Grey Cup Champions (1:768 packs) cards honor the Ottawa Redblacks' title. Finally, updates come via the Rookie and Veteran Redemptions. Each averages 1:384 packs, but the rookie version is good for six total cards while the veteran edition yields a 12-card set for players who joined new teams.

Estimated Release Date: 7/19/2017
Hobby Product Configuration: 6 cards per pack, 24 packs per box, 16 boxes per case (2 inners)

I guess they also scrapped the High Gloss parallel /10? I wish they had both Exclusives /100 and HG /10

I like that the HG /10 is gone. Just had no appeal for the collector base for this type of product. I wish they would do some type of parallel set that would not be too difficult to put together (1 per pack type deal). Those always went over very well when Pacific had the license.

The HG /10 may not have had massive appeal but removing it altogether and dropping to 1 jersey per box takes value away from the break so unless wax cost comes way down, I'm not sure this will be worth it

I never understood why they skipped the Exclusives #'d/100 and only offered the High Gloss #'d/10. If they were going to try a base parallel then I agree they should have used the Pacific model that were easier to acquire or at least start with the Exclusives #'d/100 to see if that had an appeal for collectors.

If they don't reduce the price with the way they seemed to have modified this set, for the worse, I think they will lose a lot of collectors. I wonder if they have lost money on this card set and this is their last attempt to see if they can make a penny. Does anyone know the length of the deal that Upper Deck signed with the CFL/CFLPA?

It's too bad that the longtime CFL loyal company JOGO lost it's license. Upper Deck like All World and Pacific look to be another company that will come and go very quickly.

I agree. It seems pretty much impossible to collect all the HG for 1 team, let alone try to collect the whole set. I'm having a tough enough time trying to track down Patch and auto cards.
