2019-20 The Cup coming in...........?

Hockey hasn’t been as bad. The market for anything hockey is tiny in comparison. Right now the distributors are playing games with pricing.

I CAN’T buy boxes now, which is fine because my lottery ticket itch is gone. I’ve been buying singles and buying the spoils of people paying $700 for a box of $125 cards and getting the usual $30 results. Removing the itch to bust boxes has been amazing. I’m not losing money (except on bad buys, which is only a thing if you’re buying singles on a spike).

^^^^^ totally agree AND with the allocation of products, I've been buying / trading for cards that appeal / affordable to my pocket book.

This is way off topic. I've been flipping wax boxes as well. No need to even open it LOL

Nah, the idea that boxes need to be marketed has gone the way of the Dodo bird. My mind goes to those guys at the Expo that sell older retail and hobby boxes along the south wall and how they’ve likely sold their entire inventory since the pandemic started and likely at an astronomical markup.

NO products need to be hyped.

They're not sold out. They sell an aliquot at a time, wait two weeks...lo and behold, more product at the new prices.

They ain't sold out. They're making good cash. And quite honestly, I don't begrudge it them.

With the upcoming season being affected they should just hold off and do a double set for 20-21 for the Cup. This will give them more time and maybe even reduce any redemptions that they have to put in.

Group Breakers would riot. Unfortunately, you and I are no longer the target market (as much as they will claim we are). If they could do a series 2, I’m sure they would at this point because THAT would sell out as well. Those lines are filling and there is no need to hold off on anything.

20 years from now, we’ll look back at this and think “what a bad period for overproduction”, much like we do at the late 80s and early 90s.

And that I totaly get. Im sure that most Group Breakers need to have this to come out for content/ keep flow to their stores or what not. But at the same time your second point is what I am afraid of. Its not going to take me 20 years to see it.. I can see it now with the way prices are going. Its great for the hobby but I cannot see it being sustainable and seeing this bubble pop eventually. but thats an argument for another thread.. So that being said tto satisfy the breakers do a half half like they did with 05-06 SPA release half now just to have something and put the rest in 20-21 Cup.. they are already doing it basically.

If we don’t want redemptions then we will have to wait for a pretty long time would be my guess. I am pretty sure that UD was not flying out reps to get players to sign cards during the shut down of the pandemic.

Depending on who you ask, that could be considered extremely critical work!

While I agree, it will not become fully visible to the masses for a while yet. A good proxy is Upper Deck series 1 & 2 case hit inserts - those have plummeted in value from pre-epack to post-epack.

Agreed. It’ll take a mass exodus of collectors (likely the same ones who are here for the bump and then will leave) for that to become apparent.

I won’t buy any of this stuff so long as UD is pushing that ePack garbage. My best AND my condolences to everyone who is.

Someone ask UD about Cup on Twitter this week. They replied they are trying to figure out logistics since Cup is hand packaged and they need to adhere to COVID procedures.
