Empire comics did a 50 greatest comic book character. I would change some but I thought it was worth sharing with the other board members. BTW you can vote on the bottom if you think the character should be higher or lower on the list. After you vote it shows in the arrows the results from the voters.

Some real obvious ones like DD, Lex Luthor, JJJ and one of my favorites Dr Doom (IMO one of the top 5 characters in comics).

Clearly they got the top 2 wrong when most said Batman (#2) should be higher and Superman (#1) should be lower.

DD should definitely be higher (and the vast majority agree). I like the Punisher being so high lol

Green Lantern, Hulk, Dr Doom, Joker, Lex Luthor etc... should all be higher. I guess Superman is the most important but I would still rather see Batman at #1.

My problem is that they included alot of off characters and had them high on the list (Death, Dream, Spider Jerusalem even saint of killers). Where is Archie, Uncle Scrooge, Conan, Ra's, Richie Rich, Jonah Hex, Thor, Green Goblin etc etc.

My guess is that they were trying to include main characters from publishers other than Marvel and DC. But to be honest, there are several of those I've never heard of, neither the character nor the title. Oh well.

Wizard did this in one of their 200th issue releases. Granted they picked the 200 best, so it gets diluted pretty fast, but they put Wolverine at #1.

I suppose Superman is the most important, but the best? I dunno. Maybe I hesitate to say that since I've never been a Superman fan, but i don't know who'd I'd put there.

Superman is the most iconic, most universally recognized, most important, and the so called "grandfather" of all other Superheroes...to have anybody else at no 1 would be sacreligious, whether you actually liked the character or not. I personally think Superman is lame, but I'd never argue his placing on the list...

Also, consider that there is no option that you agree with somebody's placing on the list, you can only choose higher or lower...Superman is No 1, yet 20% of people say that he should be higher? How the heck could you get higher than no 1? That alone nullifies the validity of any informal poll that they may have.

That being said, I feel wayyyyy out of touch. I can honestly say I have never heard of at least half of the people on that list.....some characters sounded interesting, others just made me shake my head.....

with out a doubt at the very least Archie should have been in the top 10.

you guys are more knowledgable than I am in this do you think Captain Canuck could have made then list <no laughing>

Or maybe X-Man. C'mon, he had an entire 75-issue run. On a side note, I got lured into buying the full run off someone on eBay merely as the result of a poor search and lack of reading. Lesson learned.

Captain Canuck shouldn't be in the top 50.

As an owner of a comic shop that sells Silver Age to Japanese anime artbooks in Los Angeles, I can safely say that Spiderman is #1 for the last two generations. Superman is very 1950s and his books don't command the excitement of fans as Spiderman, X Men and Watchmen do.

Rorschach should be #2 but I'm a bit biased here. :D

Also, they should mention that these are only western comics. There's no Ogami Itto on this list.

List seemed to be very stunted towards Vertigo characters. Lone Wolf & Cub should have been on there. Good to see Hunter Rose Grendel make the list. Too bad they used Grendel Prime's pic :-(

Hmm, interesting list. I personally would have had Batman at #1 also but that's just me. Though my list would have had personal fav's on there like The Crow, Lobo, and Reid Fleming worlds toughest milkman..:D
