Expo was awesome for me. I pretty much cleaned up on Thursday and Friday. Saturday and Sunday were tiresomely boring and low in terms of sales. I was not the most prepared as I didn’t have much in the way of new inventory. That being said, I must have priced things right as Thursday and Friday, things flew out of the showcases with relative ease and extremely little haggling. I was set up like usual with my friend the King of the Podcast airwaves, Jeremy Lee. As a side note, over the past year, I have been pulling away from the hobby drama including warring podcasters etc. I really don’t know the gossip and such and it’s refreshing as **** to enjoy the hobby this way.
Speaking of Gomaz, we went to the networking dinner and it was rammed. Like uber rammed. I said hello to a few people and then went to the bar to watch hockey with a few friends. Chinner, Angel etc.
The highlight of my night on Thursday was breaking bread with Chris Carlin. It has been quite a few years since I had a real conversation with him. We chatted about PSA, I showed him my submission. I tried to get an auto of his authenticated but PSA refused as Chris does not have enough pedigree in the hobby. What the actual ****. I was shocked. I am going to make it my mission to get him recognized lol
I found myself going to the booths of people who I really enjoy their company. I will give a special shoutout to Frankiefives. Thanks for putting up with me. It is nice to have an intelligent conversation with intelligent people who are genuine as hell. Frank is one of those peeps if you haven’t known that by now. He did rob me of my wallet a few times .. or maybe more than a few times.
Another special shout out to my brother from another mother, Steve Angel (Quincy). It was nice to talk in person for once instead of over Facetime and/or text. Steve and I have bonded over the years and he’s good people. If it were not for Steve, about 5-6 years ago, he invited me to dinner with Rod/Vic (Crankshaft), Richie Barone, Frank Staine and a few others I am forgetting. I truly enjoy our banter and have become very good friends with those boys. Honestly, that crew is so awesome and I love hanging out with them. No drama, just lots of food, drinks and stories for days and days.
There are others who not part of these boards that also deserve a shout out but I’ve already sent them a text.
Other highlights include filling in to host a panel with Troy (Trike415), Chris Sewell (Baseball Card Collector Investor Dealer), Jeremy The Texas Snowman(I am not sure of his YT or IG handle) and the one and only Jeremy Lee (SCL). This was a bit nerve wracking as I was called in last minute to host the panel. Remember how I said I pulled myself out of listening to podcasts and such. Well as luck will have it, I had no clue who Jeremy the Texas Snowman or Chris Sewell were. Jeremy had to give me a 2 minute backstory on the way to the stage so that I could at least come up with questions. I did know Trike415 thankfully. I was told I did a good job so that made for an interesting 35 minutes. It went so well that I completely went over the timeslot for Tomas Kaberle. Ooops.
A good friend of mine asked me why I didn’t continue with the podcast that I had started. I told him that it’s not dead but on pause. My priority are my kids and my family. My kids are only young once and I’d rather spend time with them than to grow my podcast. I can always come back to it. For those of you who follow me on Facebook, my kids are playing hockey at a higher and higher level with each passing year. I’ve been their coach and trainer both on ice and off. The joy of coaching kids and mentoring them has surpassed the joy I ever got from sports cards. When my kids are playing in some college somewhere, I will go back to the podcast.
Ok I said I’d keep this short but it went long. Thanks for reading. Cheers mates
If I forgot to mention your name, it was not intentional unless your name is Eli Rosu LOLOL. See you all in November.
