Sacrebleu
Upstanding Member,
I know that I haven't been around much lately. Did do some random breaks yesterday which I will post a little bit later after I get them scanned. Anywho, last night I crossed the border into Windsor along with my friend Arye and his son Daniel to see the Windsor Spitfires play the Owen Sound Attack. I would have taken my boys Jonathan and Ethan but they have school today and I didn't expect to be home til late so it was out of the question for a school night as they would have been blasted today. So before we left I looked through my dupes pile of Heroes and Prospects cards and found two cards of Attack players including Stefan Ruzicka and Bobby Ryan. They announced before the game that Ruzicka wouldn't be playing as he is on the Slovakian Nat'l Team at the WJC. The Windsor Arena is a small barn and we had great seats and watched the attack beat the living crap out of the Spits 6-0. Lots of shots, fast skating and tons of goonery and the Owen Sound goalie Mike Brown, a 5th round draft pick of the Boston Bruins was quite spectacular. Bobby Ryan had a great game getting 3 assists and a 3rd Star Selection. I suggested to young Daniel that we make our way down to the locker room area to see if we could get the card signed. They wouldn't let us get into the room but the team trainer was tremendously gracious to not only take the card in there for us but to find a proper pen. He came out with the signed card and talked hockey with us for about 10 minutes and then went back into the locker room and came out with a puck for Daniel too. The look on his face was priceless and I cursed myself for being such a conservative cautious parent and not letting my 7 and 5 year old stay up way past their bedtime on a school night so that they could have the experience too. We had such a fun time that I plan on going back with my kids in the near future. Anyway just thought that I would share this story with the group. Its a nice break from all the crap with the lockout and the horrible greed on both sides to see a bunch of talented kids flying up and down the ice truly for the love of the game.
