I could go on and on with this story but I’m trying to keep it relatively short.

Last autumn I attended a KalPa Kuopio Finnish League game in Kuopio with two of my clients and surprisingly ended up talking about hockey cards :) One client asked if there still was some Sami’s cards I’m missing and I said I’d previously seen two at the ice hall’s VIP club hosted by Sami’s father Hannu who’s a Finnish ice hockey legend himself. The cards were in a display case along with other cards and memorabilia. I said the problem was I had no contact with Hannu to what my client right away answered: ”We’ll visit the club during the intermission”. I was introduced to Hannu and he said he recognized me and he’d seen the articles about hockey card collecting I was featured in and had been thinking of contacting me because he had gathered a collection of Sami’s cards for Sami’s sons Kasperi (Maple Leafs / Penguins) and Konsta (KalPa) but they were not interested in them :)

After two meetings and some Whatsapp messages with Hannu fast forward to mid March: Hannu invited me to their home in Kuopio and we had a really nice coffee table chat with Hannu and his wife and reached a deal with the binder and the two cards from the VIP club’s display case. Here are them both.

These both cards are ”pile toppers” sent from ITG to a player with a simple instruction on where to sign the cards. I think these are amazing!

To me this story and these Sami’s cards I’m showing you are the best thing that’s happened to me in this hobby along with all the friendships I’ve made over the years. Hannu and his wife Sinikka are both friendly and lovely people and I’m very grateful for them of all this. Hope you enjoyed the read

That is so cool, amazing story.

I wonder how many of those toppers were just tossed in the trash. I would have to think most. Good for them for thinking to keep them.

I’m right with you on these cards Tatu, I think they are amazing! They provide us with a look behind the scenes from our hobby history. Congratulations on adding them to your collection, and thanks for sharing!

What Scott said. How many players would even think to keep those? I've never seen anything like that myself. Cool oddballs, and so great that they came from his family. Can't get much more personal than that.

Thanks all for the comments. Sounds silly but I somehow feel my collection’s complete after that. Haven’t had the same passion searching for new additions but I’m sure it’ll come :)
