Haven't seen this mentioned on here - so thought I would bring it up.

Graphic Communications Group ( through their iCardz division ) is releasing a set in September called America At War : D Day card collection. The set focuses on the people, places, events and equipment of D Day featuring hand coloured historical photographs and illustrations.

What is most special about the set is that it contains within it Band Of Brothers Series I - featuring the veterans of 101st Airborne Easy Company.

Each box features a card with a genuine signature from one of the Band of Brothers veterans - including Don Malarkey, Bill Guarnere, Babe Heffron, Ed Tipper, Forrest Guth, Clancy Lyall, Buck Compton, Buck Taylor and Earl 'One Lung' McClung !!

As somebody with an interest in WWII and also the exploits and members of Easy Company, this set is something that is of great interest.

I've been making my own cards to get signed by the veterans and actors of the series - this will be a great addition to that collection.

Just wanted to highlight an opportunity to own a piece of history

I believe so - think I saw mention in the press release that this was their second release ( after Canada on D Day )

In a bizarre coincidence, I posted the original message just as I left work - then got home to find a TTM response from Wild Bill Guarnere ....... how weird is that !

I would really like to pick some of this up. I also have interest in WW2 and am a really huge fane of the BoB series.
I read the infromation on the website but can't quite figure out, do you get a complete set in a box plus the addition of an auto card and sketch cards?

On a side note - if you guys are also BoB buffs, did you happen to see that there is another HBO series coming out in March called The Pacific? It is from the saem group that did BoB and it focuses on the Pacific Theatre of war. There is very little info on the web but check it out, especialy the trailer. Can't wait!

They always left the series open for this and im really glad if they do bring it to the screen. The pacific theatre is often forgotten but Flags/Iwo may have drawn the attention back towards this.

Now all we need is for Hollywood to remember that there were quite a few nations involved in WW2. ;)

As a history buff I would love an American film made that does not critisize Monty and admits the Shortcommings of Mark Clarke in Italy.

Don't count on that happening anytime soon. There are so many other story lines out there that Hollywood could use but they just don't seem to want to do anything about them unless it is an American story.
Of course there are some exceptions... Enemy at the Gates being one.

But Enemy At The Gates still uses Hollywood license :-)

My biggest gripe with Hollywood war films is when they re-write history ( the capture of the Eningma machine for example )

I am more interested in Western European theatre than Pacific - as being British, the European war had a direct impact on me, my family and my country ( not me personally as I wasn't born, but if it went badly I may have been speaking German !! )

I love Band of Brothers because they featured in the main European conflicts - D Day, Market Garden, Ardennes and then the route into Germany

I'm not sure the Pacific theatre will have the same global impact that BOB did.

By the way - got a TTM auto from Buck Compton on Saturday :-)

My card buying budget doesn't allow for wax purchasing - I'm a singles only kinda guy .......... and cheap singles at that !!

I won't be picking up boxes - just trying to pick up the BOB singles

Currently applying for a new job that would involve a £12K per annum pay rise, that might change my card budget considerably

I agree with you. The pacific theatre doesn't have the same global appeal as BoB does. Most people don't know much about the pacific theatre apart from Pearl Harbour and the A-Bomb drop. That is kind of why I am looking forward to it. A bit of a history lesson if you will.
Either way I think it should be an entertaining mini-series

I agree if it is as well made as BOB it will be fantastic

I have watched a few films around the war in the Pacific - but don't feel the same connection because of the geographically distance.

For example, a film about D Day to me has more influence on me because I know that the Normandy beaches are at most a couple of hundred miles from me. I know that the Ardennes and Dutch countryside is a simple ferry journey away - yet the locations shown in Letters from Iwo Jima or other Pacific Theatre films are thousands and thousands of miles away and are very remote.

Also, because the British were less involved in that theatre I feel less impact when I read about Iwo Jima for example. I still understand the pain, heartache and suffering that went into capturing every inch of the islands - but I don't feel the same connection.

Again, this is only my personal perception of that theatre. I'm not in anyway saying one was less important than the other - just that one had less impact on some of us.
