This actually relates to a basketball card, but the story is really centered around the current eBay environment...

So I have a Jordan Exquisite card up for sale. Put a lofty BIN but no one hit. Get an offer of $999.00 so I take it. Here's the auction:

My auction

A few days go by and I hear nothing from the buyer. I send him a note to "touch base" and see when he's going to send me my grand. He replies telling me he's waiting on payment for a few items, it was taking longer than he thought, but it should only be a couple more days. So i look at his selling history. Guess what I find?

Auction he's waiting for payment on

So, he's basically trying to flip my card for a profit. If he makes out, I get paid. If he doesn't, then I get stuck. Well, looks like I'm stuck. So now, do you play nice, back out of the deal, recover your fees and move on - or do you make his life hell with reporting image theft and all the other things I can think of. Oh yeah, and then get the negative feedback for pressing him on it. So I take the high road, let him back out with the mutual agreement, recover my fees, and move along. All because eBay has a system geared towards screwing the sellers and letting the buyers have all the leverage.

What are your thoughts?

Oh yeah, he gave me a positive feedback for being "so cool"

Definitely report him. He took a risk and lost. You should not haver to pay for his dumb move. If nothing else, he gets a strike.

Is there any chance he'll still pay you the full amount and try to make this all right for the guy he is selling it to? Even if he does, it's greasy, as mentioned, and should be reported.

What I don't get is why he would "win" it from you for $999 then turn around and offer it at a BIN of $899.

Maybe I'm missing something here.

Joe, it was actually a starting bid of $899 that only received 1 bid. He probably thought starting it lower would get more bid activity.

That really bites... Report him and move on.. He isn't worth the added aggravation, IMO.... :o

I'll just relist the card and report him. He should also get a negative from the guy that won the re-auction of the card, if that wasn't a shill bid.

I don't get worked up over stuff like this any more (flashes back to first eBay negative on June 2000). One has to assume that when dealing with the masses on eBay that you're just going to run into a certain amount of knuckleheads. It's just a numbers game, and no matter what you do, they're going to be there!

Anyone want it for $999??? Its a sweet one!

I've never seen that before. Thankfully, I've only had 1 bad experience of somebody not paying and didn't have to deal with any negative feedback related to that experience. It is a shame there are people like that person in the world.
