Sadly, not this Beastly:
now for the update on my UFC sets.
Well...my indecisive nature in deciding which UFC Knockout set I wanted to do has just sort of rolled into "Might as well start chasing all 4" since well...getting rid of UFC cards will probably be the easiest thing in the world since there isn't much of it floating out there.
So if you have any of the /188 or /88 base autos or /188 or /88 auto relics, hit me up. Here's what I've picked up from when we last left off.
2011 UFC Knockout Base Autos /188: Seth "The Silverback" Petruzelli, Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva, Rich "The World's Most Dangerous Mathematician" Franklin, Bart-"Imus" Palaszewski. Not scanned, Shane Carwin redemption.
Not sure why Bartimus gets his own scan and the scanner chose to put the other 3 together. The only bonus of owning of a Seth Petruzelli auto is that he took the time to sign with his nickname. The downfall of course, is that I had to pay for a Seth Petruzelli autograph. Petruzelli was Petruunemployed by the time this set was Petrureleased, so it should mean finding the rest of his Petrustuff should be Petrucheap.
I also broke my "no redemptions" rule and bought a Carwin redemption, which I sort of regret, but hey...I like the guy, and his auto is easy as **** to write, so he really has no excuses not to fulfill. Carwin, Franklin and Silverback came off eBay via HI member paulsamborski, Bartimus was actually part of a box break I split with Greg (thecooker24) along with the card below, and the Wandy came from Jon (Bebop) as a freebie for giving him a couple DVDs a few weeks back. I don't remember what he grabbed, but I know I enjoy this card a lot better than what he took that day
Wandy also has a special place in my heart after wishing me an "H. Birt" a couple years ago on my birthday.
and now for the Beastly part of the mailday...
Dan Severn base auto
Who knows why the former NWA World Champion shows up in this set
Of everybody clamoring to fight Royce in Rio, Severn's the opponent I want to see the most because I know Art Jimmerson will never fight with one boxing glove if he's chosen.
No /88 green autos this time around, so onto the auto relic parade.
2011 UFC Knockout Auto Relic /188 Kenny Florian
If there was a UFC Heroes and Prospects set, this guy would be the Ryan White (lifelong prospect) of it. Thing about Florian...he's basically the UFC's Brutus Beefcake. He's got enough friends higherup that he's probably got a job for life, but he's never going to be a champion no matter how much they can hype it. If he couldn't beat Penn, he sure as hell isn't going to drop down and beat Aldo.
He also has a stupid nickname.
(Contrary to everything I've said above, I really like Kenny Florian and would pay to see him fight 11 out of 10 times.)
2011 UFC Knockout Green Auto Relic /88 Matt Hughes
Matt Hughes. Dude I've learned to sort of like only after GSP made him verbally tap. I felt dirty cheering him on during the Renzo Gracie fight, but felt completely fine cheering him against BJ Penn, though it backfired. Oh well. I love the green shade Topps used on these cards...very sharp. This was another buy off Jon on Sunday.
It's a good day when Matt Hughes isn't even one of the stars of the show....
...and now for the Rob Van Dam FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH. BY GAWD KING THAT'S HOBBY INSIDER'S MUSIC.
Coming in at #5...one of my favorite favorite MMA personalities. PAPOW DAS MY WIFE
2011 UFC Knockout Green Auto Relic /88 "El Guapo" Bas Rutten
Who can say a bad word about the handsome one? He's so off the charts random that it's hard not to laugh at his sense of humor. That and if you don't laugh, he'll land the dreaded "kick to de leever morrowranallo PAPOW BONG." This one was the last card I bought from Jon on Sunday.
At #4...the 4th proudest brown guy behind myself, Ryan and Bal...well, maybe 1st since he's the only one that has it tattooed on his body...
2011 UFC Knockout Auto Relic /188 Cain Velasquez
This was another pickup from Paul. He had 3 up on eBay, and while I was bidding on all 3 at one point (since having extra autos of the current UFC Heavyweight champ is never a bad thing,) it was this one that was the only I walked away with in the end. 2 years ago I told Jon and Gordon that of the new crop filtering into UFC, only Carwin and Velasquez would be legit title contenders for Brock. This may be one of the few times in my life I was right. Of course, this was before JDS started to round into form, though I'm still convinced 100% that JDS has what it takes to beat Cain, though he's the best matchup for him right now.
Coming in at #3...Roy Nelson...oh no wait...
2011 UFC Knockout Auto Relic /188 Jose Aldo Jr.
Aldo...there isn't much more to be said here. This guy's stock is SERIOUSLY on the rise, and I was happy to pick this card up for the amount that I did because I have a feeling that his cards are going to be worth a small mint once he finishes demolishing Mark Hominick...or maybe my life'll be easier if Hominick beats him, which I just can't see happening. This was an SCF pickup from le buffalo bill, who was kind enough to exceed my expectations and ship this and the next card expresspost though he charged me going rates for regular mail.
Coming in at #2 with a cartwheel....
2011 UFC Knockout Auto Relic /188 Jon "Bones" Jones
I'm one of the biggest Bones Jones fanboys I know. Gordon (Shaboobala) and I practically tore down 2 permanently bolted down tables at the sports bar we were watching the event at when he beat Shogun, and this was an easy #1 star on most days, but well...my #1 star is more of a personal favorite than anything. This was the other pickup from buffalo bill.
The #1 star...even if I abandon the idea of finishing all 4 auto sets, I'll probably pick up all 4 of this guy's autos because he cracks me up...
2011 UFC Knockout Green Auto Relic /88 Patrick "H2O" Barry
Pat Barry. This guy's one of my favorite fighters. You've got to love a guy that makes a viking descendant air tap, who destroys his first 3 career opponents with 6 kicks TOTAL, who sings along to his opponent's theme song while he's coming out and has a sense of humor that has you in stitches. Barry's one of the most grateful guys in the UFC, and his mixture of skill and charisma makes him one of my favorites hands down. His stock will never be as high as some of his peers and training buddies, but well...they aren't Patrick Barry.
That's all she wrote for this one. Anticipate me selling some of my hockey cards soon to fund my new UFC addiction.
See you at the beach...
