R.A. Dickey + for D'Arnaud +

A top prospect for a soon to be UFA.

I also heard Gose was in play as well and he's a prospect as well right?

Jays pitching staff looks solid.

Dickey
Johnson
Morrow
Bearhle (spelling?)
Romero

According to this cbssports report the Jays don't want to part with d'Arnaud, and are trying to swing a package of Arencibia and Gose.

Now I don't like the idea of them trading the latter two names for a 38 year old knuckleballer. I would be quite upset if they traded one of the best prospects in all of baseball (d'Arnaud), plus others for him.

If the Jays give up D'Arnaud for Dickey they're crazy.

Only if Dickey signs an extension would I even consider doing something like this. Dickey is a knuckleballer and one who won a Cy Young using the pitch. If Toronto's offence is as good as it seems on paper, it may not feel like a good trade, but moving a top prospect for a Cy Young winner isn't a bad thing either.

Keep in mind he is 38. Mets offeredd him a 2 year/$20 Million offer and he countered with 2 year/$24 milllion. Are you/Jays willing to give him 2 years/$24 million? If so, possible sign and trade?

Also, some reporter on twitter said Gose isn't part of the deal.

Anyone know anything about another Jays prospect named Syndergaard? Apparently he's in the mix as well. On another forum, I heard he's another solid prospect that would be tough to trade. In my previous post, I said some reporter was saying Gose isn't part of the deal. Jays fans, which would you rather give up? Gose and D'Arnaud or Syndergaard and D'Arnaud? Or neither package, stick with the current pitchers and forget about Dickey?

Baseball America ranks Syndergaard as the Jays number two prospect, behind d'Arnaud. He's a hard throwing 20 year old. I find it interesting that they would be giving up more top end prospect talent in this trade than they did in the Florida deal. Again I can't express how much I dislike the idea of them trading their top two prospects for a pitcher who has had a great one and a half season run.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal between the two clubs as it stands on Saturday, would see seven players switch teams, with Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and a prospect heading to Toronto for catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, recently acquired catcher John Buck and another prospect.

Not sure if it was the same reporter but I read another board that the two unknown prospects aren't elite. Also, I heard money might be going to NY because Buck is involved.

I'm torn on this deal...it sucks to be giving up two premier prospects to land Dickey but on the other hand, the Jays are now going all in to try and win the World Series.

I'd absolutely give him that money. I'm surprised he doesn't want a 5 year deal, though. $12 million a year for a Cy Young winner is a bargain.

I don't think they do sign and trades in baseball...teams give each other a window to work out an extension with the player. He's apparently said he would sign an extension, which makes me feel better about the deal. Even at 38, with him being a knuckleballer, he can now pitch until he's 60 if he wants to.

If this happens it drops Romero down to the 5 spot in the rotation. Hopefully without the pressure of having to be the ace he can regain his touch around the plate.

You think Romero will be fine as the number 5 pitcher? Any chance he asks for a trade or even without asking for a trade, any chance he gets traded? Trade him for other needs and then Happ slides back into the rotation. But even if he's unhappy, you kind of need him because there's a chance Johnson and Dickey leaves after 1 season in Toronto.

There might not really be a need for Romero though. Personally, I favor Happ over Romero, so I agree that Happ can slide into the 5 spot and even if Johnson or Dickey leave after 1 season, Hutchison and Drebek will be coming off the DL in time for spring training the next season (providing there aren't any setbacks in their recoveries). I say see what you can get for him at the trade deadline at the latest, hopefully by then he's turned things around and is enticing enough for a team to bite on a trade for him.

Just my thoughts on the situation though.

Mike

2 year extension for $25 million...3 years total at $30 million? Awesome deal considering that Boston gave Ryan Dempster 2 years and $26.5 million. I'm sad to see d'Arnaud and Syndergaard go, but they weren't playing for the Jays until 2014. The Jays are clearly in beast mode now and want to win while they have Bautista and Encarnacion under contract.

EXCITING time to be a Blue Jays fan!

Couldn't have said it any better myself. Losing prospects is never great but man this has to put us in serious contention. Plus it's an unknown factor whether prospects pan out or not.
