Hi everyone,

I don't often ask for advice in the hobby world as I like being my own lone-wolf, but I have been fighting a battle with eBay since their managed payments system went into place and I am honestly lost on ideas as to how to overcome this because this feels like spinning on a hamster wheel now.

Background:

Since their managed payments system came into place, I switched my eBay account to a business account and have been running my eBay business as my company "Heroes of the Crease: Goaltending Museum and Memorabilia Ltd". I provided my certificate of incorporation, a copy of my business license, as well as select documentation from my latest corporate tax return which they needed. The bank account I linked was also legally registered under my company as a proper business account and could only be created as a result of proving I owned the company with my documentation to begin with.

The totality of the documentation I provided to them showed the business name, address, business number, country and province of origin, etc., etc., which is necessary.

The managed payments were approved at first and those payments were coming in for a couple of weeks. I have no issues with that system and this is not a complaint or rant about how managed payments work on the whole as when it works, it is still easy and convenient as it ever was.

The Issue:

Two weeks ago, all of my managed payments have been held by eBay because all of a sudden, they cannot verify the easily verifiable information I supplied to them (though the banks could, and the federal government had no issue with on my corporate taxes) and they refuse to pay out nearly $650 of my company's money that they are holding.

I have attempted customer service regarding this issue over the phone and explained everything to them and showed them the paperwork and they still refuse to accept my paperwork and information. They provide "solutions which will for sure/hopefully solve the problem" and none do including such hits as "shortening the name of the company on the business name section", and the ever-enlightening "are you sure the information you put in is correct?". Every time I do those solutions, they still refuse to verify the documentation. At this point, it feels like they are taking the money that I earned hostage with no end in sight and I honestly don't know what to do next or what options are available as I don't know how many more times I can call in, have the same conversation with the same clueless people who provide a "solution", only to be right back at square one within 48 hours.

Submit the info they ask for again, and remind them they had paid out money before under the same name. If they don't hand over your cash, bring legal action. Probably only small claims court, but still. It will cost them more in legal fees than the amount they are holding from you.
When that is all done, quit ebay. They will probably cancel your account if you bring legal action anyway.

I appreciate that advice.

I ended up taking hi-res photos of all of the documents, left some snarky comments on them and told them that I don't appreciate having my company's hard-earned money taken hostage. I also removed all of my active listings because I told them that when I signed on to sell on eBay, it wasn't so I could make them 100% of the money I earned.

If that doesn't work, then I will have to escalate...though I hope it works, this has been a huge headache and stressful.

Would it not have been easier to go through eBay by just using a personal account with your own information, and not your "company" ?

It seems you've had to jump through quite a few hoops just to get paid.

My situation isn't the same but similar in that they are not paying me. I asked for a manager last time I called. That manager was about as useless as the 7 reps I spoke to prior to that.
I filled out the survey they sent me after that call and blasted them pretty hard. Later that week I got an email from ebay requesting I call their "customer survey outreach" team. I called and left a message. Hoping they call me back tomorrow. They owe me nearly $1500cdn
Good luck with this, I understand how stressful it is.

I’ve only sold one card since managed services started, but to be honest my listings were down by 95%….I just wanted to see what happened. I created a usd account at the RBC using the online app. Verified the account with eBay. Sold the one card, entered tracking after having a slightly heated discussion about that requirement with ebay(it isnt) and they sent payment one day later, I received usd 2 days after that. I have confirmed that tracking is not required for smaller items and package sent checkbox is enough to initiate payment.

It really wasn’t that bad

Two questions come to mind - are you dealing with eBay Canada - who I have found to be extremely helpful, On the other hand - if you are dealing with eBay.com (USA) then your business like will require a US incorporation.

Having been using eBay since its inception, I was very wary or managed payments (which I was forced to switch to on June 15, 2021). I only list on eBay.com, as so far - everything has gone smoothly - though waiting up to si days for the money to hit my bank account is a pain.

I had some problems setting up - and asked for them to call me, and likely the person from eBay Canada stayed with me on the phone until everything was up and running properly.

Wish you the best of luck, with a quick resolution.

After my last snarky attachment to eBay with all of the same documentation attached as before with choice commentary written for each, they have finally sent my company's (yes, my company is a real Ltd. company and not a "company") withheld payout of nearly $700 this morning. So...I win!

I appreciate all the productive advice from those that offered it and anyone else going through similar struggles with eBay, stay on them and keep persisting.
