I'm a huge Star Wars geek, but don't think I could do the other fans justice by going to the SW Celebration. Eventually I'll go, but in the meantime I'm planning on going to a theoretically tamer show. SheVaCon, Stellarcon, RavenCon, AdventureCon, DragonCon--it's just all so confusing!

Anyway, after some research, it looks like we're probably going to the AdventureCon in Knoxville in a couple of months. Next year I'll probably go to the San Diego ComicCon.

I guess my question is, what should I expect? I'm going mainly to see the cards, books, figures/statues, that sort of stuff. From everything I see I should get that. Plus they're gonna have Winston Zedmore and the freakin' Ecto 1 there!

Also, my wife wants to tag along and we'll be taking my son. My wife is all about dressing up, and heck, why not--for Halloween, I went as Lando, my wife as cinnamon-buns Leia, and my 1-year old was Chewie.

We're trying to get some ideas on what to dress up as. It has to be something my wife has heard of or she won't be into it, and I don't want it to be someone instantly recognizable or "big" (no Superman, Spidey--that sort of thing). We thought about Zan, Jayna, and Gleek from the Wonder Twins. I'm not sure how I feel about wearing purple tights, but we'll see.

I also thought 2-Face would be a fun costume, though a little more mainstream.

Any other ideas? I know you can't suggest people that you know my wife would know, but I'll take anything.

Well, I just booked the hotel and bought the tickets--we're AdventureCon-bound. Should be a lot of fun, I hope.

Curious about the lineup?

Kevin Sorbo - Hercules, Andromeda, a few episodes of Dharma and Greg
Doug Jones - Silver Surfer, Abe Sapien
Roddy Piper - They Live, and just being rowdy ;)
Andrew Divoff - Lost
Shawnee Smith - Saw movies, Becker
Missi Pyle - nothing really notable
Ernie Hudson - Ghostbusters and a few other things
Kane Hodder - Jason in most of the later Friday the 13th flicks
Danielle Harris - Haloween 4, Rugrats (?)
Tony Moran - Michael Myers in the first two flicks
Daniel Taylor - no clue

Apparently Kevin Sorbo is the "big name" person attached to this shin dig. Too bad I have zero interest in seeing him.

Id be all over Shawnee Smith...Loved her in the Saw series..and Missi Pyle just for being in Heroes.

Not a bad lineup at all.

OH...

Ive never been to a non sports specific show but I do plan on attending my first one this comming october up in Dallas Tx. Star Wars Fan Days II. Last year SWFD I looked like it was a blast but I wasnt able to attend and I have every intention of doing so this year.

I've been to DragonCon every year for the past 5 years in Atlanta. The first year was by far the best. They have changed things a bit, more and more of the actual convention is set up across at least 2 hotels. There's a big parade Sat. morning for all of the 501st and anyone else that is dressed up. There's gaming that lasts pretty much 24-7 for the entire time. Artwork, silent auctions, you name it, it is there. They have scaled down the size of the dealer's room, which I think has affected who attends these shows. Not much to buy anymore, but occasionally, you find good deals. Also, there's lots of vendors there explaining new games, or products. Lots of fun.
Buy your tickets early, it is cheaper.
I've also been to the Star Wars Celebrations, unbelievable. I'll try to dig up some pics and post here. Interesting people.
I think it is safe to say there's lots of guys out there in the world that do NOT need to wear costumes that involve tights!

I heard DragonCon was pretty good, but also that there wasn't as much non-sport stuff there as some of the other big shows. Based on what you said, that may be untrue. Now that I think about it, Atlanta isn't much farther of a drive for me than AdventureCon.

I'm also heading down to Charlotte next month at least for the day for HeroCon. It's only a couple of hours away, all interstate.

Next year I'm hoping to go to the San Diego Comic Con, maybe the big Non-sport Show in Philly. I've always wanted to go to one of the Star Wars Celebrations, but just never pictured myself as "one of those people" though I've been a SW geek since i was a wee lad. I suppose if I can dress up in purple tights and go to a comic convention as Zan, I can definitely go to a Celebration!

My and my gf go to FanExpo in Toronto every year. Don't tell any one, it's a secret that we are such geekos.

I went to a Star Wars Convention here in Toronto a few years back. It sucked ***. Only when we got there did we realize it was put on by Fastball Sportscards. It all made sense then.

The dealer rooms were separated into three rooms: the main one and two NO ONE knew about...the dealers in the dungeon were a tad pissed.

I want to go to one of the Expos here in Toronto...just need to work out dates. Any more coming up before the end of the year?
