Its nicer than the scan shows. Theres actually a thick black stitch over the black patch section. I have a question though (if this post hasn't run its course): there is some fray bulging out from the right side of the patch - should I try to trim it or leave it alone? I think it makes it more unique, but others may think it looks bad.

I'd say leave it. I have a patch like that too,

Leave the threads coming out of the patch...it makes it more unique
