Verified Trader,
It has been a very crazy spring for me as the school year came to a close with exams and practicals galore, but a lot of mail did pile up and upon returning to Vancouver, it felt like Christmas to see the giant stash of envelopes waiting to be opened atop my desk!
First, some pick-ups here and there to add to my Canucks collection:
Maxim Lapierre Sp Authentic RC: been looking for one of these, thanks to hccollector for the easy trade. Hope you get your end soon too buddy:
Mattias Ohlund auto:
Sergei Shirokov
Aaron Volpatti!!
Cody Hodgson:
Alexandre Burrows:
Trevor Linden /25:
Brandon Reid..I remember being a huge fan of Reid when he first broke into the league; so much speed, he was just a fun guy to watch. I will have to try him TTM via his Swiss League team next season. This particular jersey card has been quietly eluding me for quite a few years now:
Richard Brodeur on one of the best designs out there:
Ed Jovanovski Rookie Review patch! Also one of my favorite sets ever! (Landed this one for a steal of $12, not bad I think).
A few non-Canucks:
Pat Verbeek 500 Goal Scorers - this 500 goal scorers set was once the creme de la creme of 500 goal scorers memorabilia cards; still love the design on these:
Rick Martin, whose autos are scarce at best nowadays:
Joe Nieuwendyk Tape to Tape /20: I actually really like the vintage Flames jerseys
New Custom jersey cards:
Mats Lindgren! For the longest time, didn't even know this guy had certified jersey cards available:
TTM returns (mostly customs):
Pat Verbeek (a very good signer) returned 4/4. I think I'm only missing an auto of Verbeek pictured in NY Rangers now:
Brad Lukowich - one of the fastest turnarounds from an active player I have seen yet:
Heather Moyse - I originally wanted to create a custom card of some sort, but really couldn't find any good photos to use. I emailed Heather Moyse via her site and she offered to send some autographed photos through the mail to me free of charge!
Patrick Chan IP at his fundraising event:
Anderson and Roe IP - a crazy piano duo
Mike Weaver 2/2 via Panthers:
Bert Robertsson 2/2 from Sweden:
Richard Park!
Wade Brookbank 2/2 - this guy was one of my favorite scrappers way back when, boy he was fun to watch and even more fun to use on NHL 05:
Byron Ritchie 2/2 from Switzerland:
Nolan Baumgartner
Mark Mancari 2/2 (also a very quick return):
Byron Bitz 2/2
Ian Kidd:
Bryan Helmer
Andrew Ebbett
Joel Perrault 2/2 - Technically you could call these UER (uncorrected errors), I didn't realize I spelled his name wrong on both cards until I had already mailed out. Glad that Perrault didn't mind (or didn't notice) and signed them anyway:
Jason Jaffray 2/2
Bobby Lalonde 2/2 (waited more than a year for these):
Guillaume Desbiens 2/2
Just in yesterday, Mike Fountain 2/2. When Fountain was a rookie, people in our grade 2 class were raving about him because our teacher (a Ms. Fountain) happened to have a brother named Mike. Oh, how we were so easily amused back then:
And some women:
Cassie Campbell 2/2 - Very happy with these as Campbell is such a huge icon in Women's Hockey. Congratulations on receiving Order of Canada!
Alana Blanchard, a pro-surfer. Wasn't sure if I was ever going to receive these back as I've never seen any items signed by her on ebay or anywhere else for that matter. The way these turned out though, I'm surprised we don't see more surfing cards. She signed 3 cards (two on the blank side with "To Rich, Live it Up) and a photo:
And now onto a HUGE return via the Oilers!! Drum-roll.......
Taylor Hall!!
Haha, yea sorry, I had to try that. To be honest, I think this Taylor Hall autograph is probably harder to find than those of the active Taylor Hall. Certainly the photograph I used was a once in a lifetime find. (And FYI, Taylor Hall is the GM for the Tulsa Oilers, so everything I had up there was in fact, true)
Finally, the top 3 for these past two months:
#3. Darren Langdon 03-04 Topps Tough Times jersey. I had seen this card a long time ago, but they were stuck in either enforcer collections, or newfie collections. I wasn't sure how rare these were in terms of print run but they didn't turn up very often. One day, I get a random message from our resident Irbe Collector and apparently he had this card sitting among his traders for the longest time:
#2.
Katherine McPhee from Smash (hence the title). Really happy about this return (took about 5 months)! I never before followed American Idol, but I came across a few vids on youtube of her rendition of Over the Rainbow and was blown away by the talent. Can't wait to get this framed!
#1. Marc-Andre Fleury UD Premier Collection patch auto RC /99. This card has been on the long-term wantlist for a quite a few years now. It was expensive but worth it, some of these older Premier Collection RCs are the nicest rookies out there!
Thanks for the look, till next month!
