Hey baseball folks,

I have a question regarding rookie card status (and not why Joey Votto has "rookie cards" in 2002 and 2008).

I'm specifically looking at pre-war cards. I was working on my Canadian born RCs project last night and realized that the first [Beckett defined] RCs were in 1933 Goudey. Compare to hockey where the first RCs are 1910-11 C56s.

What reason (if any) is given for the baseball rookies starting 20+ years after hockey? Looking at Ty Cobb for example, he doesn't have a rookie card as his first issues where postcards and by the time Goudey came around, it was 25 years later - so apparently, he doesn't "get" a rookie card.

I don't know enough about nationwide circulation, print run and prestige, but does the hobby (compared to Beckett) consider the 1909-11 T206s rookie card?

Thanks kindly,

Kevin
